I remember watching this game live in Patna at my Phua's place. Kapil Dev wrecked Pakistan very early and had first 3 wickets for nothing, including yorking Qasim Omar for a first ball duck, a ball that was widely appreciated as the delivery of the tournament. Pakistan never really recovered from that. In turn Sreekanth and Shastri ensured India had no such surprises when we batted and we won handsomely. This also brings me to another question - Why were Shastri and Sreekhanth given the MOM in the semis and finals? In my opinion Kapil deserved both. In semis he won India the game after hadlee and chattfield had set up the game for NZ, in finals he ensured Pakistan were 3/29 and ended with figures of 23/3 in 9 overs. Ah well. xxx

I go all the way to 1983 WC. Still remember the semis and finals(on radio of course). Was a kid then but cricket crazy still. Still remember Patil, Yashpal Sharma, Kirti Azaad and other lesser known faces and how they had all contributed to India. In semis India beat England and yashpal had scored a magnificent half-century. During the course of the innings he had slammed a six off Bob Willis. at the other end was Mohinder Amarnath who was constantly cajoling Yashpal not to throw his wicket but Yashpal had said, "isne mujhe last match mein gaali di thi paaji...************* choroonga nahin"...amarnath would later laugh and when poked further say that the gaali Yashpal had uttered had to do with Willis mom. :haha::haha: not a great impression for a kid but hey its cricket
