Sreesanth, Chandilla and Ankit Chavan arrested for spot fixing in IPL

Recommended Posts

Live: Whatsapp helped police nab Sreesanth, Rajasthan Royals’ teammates?

10: 22 am: Was there fixing in yesterday’s Rajasthan Royals match? CNN-IBN is quotingsources as saying that yesterday’s match against Mumbai Indians was also fixed. It is a little difficult to explain given only one of the three players arrested was playing in yesterday’s match. Only Ankeet Chavan was playing in yesterday’s match and while he did not bat he did bowl three overs for 25 runs. 10:20 am: Did Delhi police use Whatsapp to catch Sreesanth? Times Now reports that the Delhi police had 70 phones under surveillance during their probe into spot fixing in the IPL and were tracking messaging software like Whatsapp and Blackberry Messenger. It was while tracking these messaging services that they found Sreesanth and the two others’ involvement. 10:15 am: Kirit Azad accuses BCCI of not doing enough to curb spot fixing Former India cricketer and BJP MP Kirti Azad says that spot fixing is a problem that has plagued the IPL and the Indian cricket board has done too little to curb it. When five players were accused of spot fixing during last year’s IPL, Azad said he had told the BCCI to transfer the case to the police instead of probing the matter themselves. “I had suggested that you shouldn’t take it on yourself and it should have been taken to police,” Azad said. Azad claimed a lot of the match fixing which took place was done by individuals from Delhi. “You will find in 90 percent of cases it is taken up by Delhi police…Much of the fixers are from Delhi,” the former cricketer said, adding that as per his information the scale of fixing was so large that in May the ICC had met with the Delhi Cricket Board to bar a person from attending matches. Meanwhile, a BCCI official has said it was too premature to speak on it. “It is improper to speak on this presently,” Niranjan Shah of the BCCI’s disciplinary commission chief told CNN-IBN. 10:10 am: Players from other teams also could be questioned? Times Now quoted sources as saying that other players could also be under the scanner in the scandal. 10:05 am: Sreesanth arrested from friend’s house, two others from team hotel The special cell of the Delhi police arrested Sreesanth from his friend’s place in Mumbai while the other two cricketers were arrested last night from the team hotel at Nariman Point. The arrest took place immediately after the players returned to their team hotel, following their match against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede stadium. A Delhi police source said that these players were under the scanner for their role in spot fixing in some of the earlier IPL match although they did not elaborate which matches were under scrutiny. 10.00 am: Case registered against Sreesanth, two others for cheating and conspiracyy CNN-IBN reports that the Rajasthan Royals team while leaving from Mumbai this morning, left behind Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandiliya. A case has been registered at the Marine Drive police station against them under charges of IPC sections 420 (for cheating) and 120 (b) (for conspiracy) There are no details of the case registered against Sreesanth. 9.50 am: Rajasthan Royals issue statement, pledges to co-operate with BCCI, Delhi police The Rajasthan Royals have issued a brief statement in the wake of the arrest of S Sreesanth, batsman Ankeet Chavan and all rounder Ajit Chandilia. The brief statement read, “We are in touch with BCCI on spot fixing probe, will co-operate with it.” Sreesanth, 2 more Rajasthan Royals’ players arrested for spot fixing in IPL Three players from the Rajasthan Royals and three bookies have been booked by the Delhi Police on charges of spot fixing in the Indian Premier League. Fast bowler and former India player S Sreesanth, batsman Ankeet Chavan and all rounder Ajit Chandilia were the three Rajasthan Royals players arrested, reported PTI. The police has also arrested three bookies in Delhi and are on the lookout for two more, the agency reported. The bookies were picked up from Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad, reported CNN-IBN. Sreesanth has been under a cloud following a recent outburst on Twitter. Image courtesy: BCCI Sreesanth has been under a cloud following a recent outburst on Twitter. There were no details available on whether the three players had fixed particular matches or if they were only in touch with the bookies. The Rajasthan Royals are in the top four teams in the ongoing IPL tournament and had played a match against Mumbai just yesterday. Chavan was a part of the squad that played in yesterday’s match and bowled three overs for 25 runs, while the two others did not play in the gam

It's hardly beyond the realms of comprehension.....think about someone like Jayawardene's situation.....gets paid $1.4 million for playing 16-19 matches in 2 months....is captain of his franchise....whether he performs or not, does not have a bearing on his national team spot.....if the fixing is institutionally backed.....why not comply? it's a win-win really......the only thing to be careful about is to not leave any tracks..... Now, I don't think that the matches are fixed down to a tee.....however.....the final results and the general pattern of the tournament definitely are.....
Yup,for match fixing to exist....not being in denial here but things have to be much deep rooted.

:giggle: What a load of crap....There are no fixers or scum of that sort in SL...We are the lion nation...
I was only answering the question of .. "a captain of the IPL team since 2010" .... Nothing about fixing or involvement.

Not jumping on the bandwagon but deep in our hearts we did have doubts on the way some games just changed momentum....also the other confusing thing is how can one fix a game....spot fixing I can see but even if the bowler cooperates' date='you just can't accurately hit a boundary every time,etc....**** I am confused how does this work [/quote'] Not necessarily something to do in field but leaking team meeting information to bookies before the match.

More I think about it, more I agree with the decision of banning RR and KXIP teams from IPL by BCCI in 4th edition for having questionable share pattern. If this episode is true, I am sure there could be owners involved in it.

I'm not devastated. because this is IPL,not an International match or tournament .Its better to catch such people in domestic tournament rather than in international tournament .

Not talking about proofs.. just saying if there is fixing invloved , it can be spread all around. In a laegue like this you cannot simply go unnoticed by insiders atleast.

Going for arrest is big move. I can't imagine Delhi police doing it without credible evidence.
Yes. That also not in middle of night , and with all the rage against their incompetancy in other crimes. It's too big risk for them , that also to arrest a player who played for India.

Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila have been arrested as well. Seven bookies have been arrested too. The initial interrogation have revealed that the parts of IPL matches at Mohali and Mumbai were fixed. Special CP Special Cell SN Shrivastava is supervising the entire operation. The role of more players is suspected, a source says. Sources said that a team led by DCP Sanjeev Yadav were camping in Mumbai to execute this covert operation. They were acting on a tip-off followed by call interception of players and bookies. The police team had waited to get proper evidence against the players and let go of two opportunities earlier even though they had prima facie proof of spot-fixing. Finally the arrests happened on late Wednesday night at hotel Trident in Mumbai. The cops have recovered money and proof of transaction between players and bookies. The accused will be brought to Delhi on a transit remand after being produced at a Mumbai court. They will be interrogated to get to the core of conspiracy.

Lets wait for the facts to emerge Its very hard for spot fixing to happen without a captain (which overs he allocates you) we dont know who has made this complaint Dravid is a man of such integrity that i doubt its more than masala news
