Muloghonto
>>>http://www.webpages.uidaho.edu/ngier/gandtantric.htm I don't believe in the vilification of the dead but there is so much out there that it just doesn't appear to be here say. It is just too disturbing. meh. on the balance of things, i will easily trade sexual depravity for quality leadership like he provided from 1918 onwards to 1934 or so. Muloghonto
I some times wonder how much of our history of freedom struggle has been manipulated . All history is manipulated to one extent or another, since history by the very definition, only leaves trace records of forces at play - social & political- while only focussing on military force (and even then, that too is fragmentary beyond 500 years ago or so for most of the world's history), leaving us (the current generation, whichever one it happens to be) to fill in the blanks and make history as they seem fit. hhunaeh
At what age did women marry during gandhi's time? Is it wise to judge characters from history based today's morality?

Muloghonto
At what age did gandhi marry his wife? 14 or 15 IIRC, his wife was one year older. They were apparently pressurized to consumate the marriage by his father and his wife's sister-in-law(older) IIRC

Muloghonto
bjp should fight the next election on this major issue. "gandhi and nehru were pervs just like the delhi rapists." That would be BJP suicide. Truth never wins personality contests. People are not interested to hear how Gandhi might've been a sexual pervert, Mohammed a child molestor, George Washington a slave-raper, etc , even though it is the truth. Campaigning on 'Gandhi/Nehru = pervs' is about as smart as campaigning on 'Mohammed = child molestor' or 'George Washington/Thomas Jefferson = slave rapers' platform. Surefire way to get yourself killed or get a grand total of zero seats.
hhunaeh
We should apply today's legal age of marriage to all of our ancestors and try to find out how many rapists and pedophiles tumble out of everybody's personal family history.
Muloghonto
We should apply today's legal age of marriage to all of our ancestors and try to find out how many rapists and pedophiles tumble out of everybody's personal family history. until victorian era, it was pretty much the norm everywhere to consider a girl marriagable when she gets her period. With guys it is a bit more variable across the world, we find that boys aged 14-17 were usually considered 'marriage age'. Strange as it may sound, there are not as many rapists as you would like to think existed back in the day. This is because, women ( even as recently as some of our parents generations) were brought up to believe that it is their duty to please their husbands' sexual needs. As such, no, your great-great great grandpa who got married to your great great great grandma, probably at the age of 15 or 16, never raped her because she probably saw it as her obligation/duty to part her legs everytime he wanted it,however he wanted it. Therefore, no rape.
Sachin=GOD
I some times wonder how much of our history of freedom struggle has been manipulated . when history is written a lot depends on who is writing it - its obvious that if someone from England is writing it then usually there would be some level of bias towards the English. Or if a Congress supporter writes it then for him the entire history of the freedom struggle would revolve around the Congress and its contribution. Everyone manipulates history to suit his/her own purposes.
