We need more Challenger trophy style wickets Bounce, movement. The youngesters batting in India today need to learn how to play on these kinda wickets. We do not want to undergo this humilitaion every time we tour a country away from home. It VITAL that pitches in India change. Im worried about Indian cricket once SRT and Dravid retire. The rest of the jokers arent up to it.

Re: Things MUST change in domestic cricket... yes baap, shortest potw yet. and LESS TEAMS!!! have max 6 ZONAL teams in the top tier. selectors should be paid on performance of the teams, and not on how many state players they can get into the zonal teams. National team player can ONLY be selected from these 6 zonal teams, unless it's a special case, in which case, BCCI ka bada baap has to sign off on it (veto type situation) and max 10 teams in the 2nd tier, and have as many as you friggen want below that.

Re: Things MUST change in domestic cricket... Less teams definitely help as the best talent will be show cased. It will help the selectors too (if they think they need help spotting the talent that is). When India is engaged in international cricket 15 of the best players are away from the domestic cricket and they come from all the zones. In such case each team right now will be left with a lot of bits and pieces players. At times a domestic team will only have one or two decent bowlers and that will not bring out the best talent available. I'm not so sure if the pitches needs changing though. There is fair bit of versatile pitches in India right now. You simply can't make every pitch a bouncy green ones. There has to be a good mix of fast and spinners tracks. Bounce of course is good for both the speedsters and the spinners. We need more of those.

Re: Things MUST change in domestic cricket... ^ No not every pitch. But there arent ANY at all really. Things have changed over the years. there was a time when every match was a dull high scoring draw. Now pacemen are getting alot more...hence the rise of a young goodish crop of pacers over the last few years I think im right in saying also that maybe the soil type in India is not condusive to greener and bouncier wickets. Something should be done though. The State cricket boards should be forced to change their strips so theres more bounce and lateral movement. Guys like SRT and Drav are once-in-a-gen. But even the Sehwags, Gangs and Laxmans came through depsite, not because of the system. Thats not going to happen every few years, so the BCCI have to make it happen More investment in grassroots, right from school/uni level- better coaching there will help too

Re: Things MUST change in domestic cricket... A quick glance at all the Ranji matches played today gives you the impression that India is some kind of seamers' paradise. 4 of today's 6 matches saw at least 10 wickets fall before stumps !! Karnataka 85, Baroda 128/4 Bengal 156, Punjab 75/3 Rajasthan 204, Gujarat 43/2 Andhra 202, Haryana 8/0

Re: Things MUST change in domestic cricket... the first thing i want change is that we have too many teams.. we need to merge teams, like punjab and haryana can be one team.. this how we can merge lot of other teams.. just like australia have made their domestic circuit and other nations as they had lot of teams... this how atleast less team would be playing, performance would be notified more then what it is rite now..

Re: Things MUST change in domestic cricket...

Simple question to those harping about pitches in India .... Ever seen/heard any of the Gora nations talk about making raging turners ... to succeed in India ?
They dont..but so what. Thats a good thing, hopefully they will continue to struggle in India forever. We OTOH want to improve abroad.

i dont know if i can agree with this 'less teams' argument. Look at the England county setup, they have tons of teams, and they are able to find a good pool of talent. the key, IMO, is in the administrative setup. you have to provide the best facilities, training, infrastructure for the players to develop in. with india being such a huge country, less teams would mean many talented individuals miss out. at least now with the large number of teams, and matches being telecast, everyone can see who all are playing and the selectors pick from them. with just 50-60 ppl playing in the domestic setup i fear that we would miss out on talents from the villages and remote areas, the indian team would become big-city centric again.

Re: Things MUST change in domestic cricket... well dhruv, england domestic circuit is quite different.. they have clubs... and also in our domestic cricket we dont have such things. In england, one can hire a player from any other cricket county club with, but in India, our players are not aloud to play for any other club.. thats wrong, it has very rarely happend that a player is aloud to play for any other state other then his native state... for eg, Rohan gavaskar of Mumbai playing for Bengal.. they always create huge controversies.. this should never happen, players should be allowed to play for any domestic team.. domestic state boards should be given some power of buying players from other states...
