You do not look at records exclusively to judge a player. If that is used, Sachin is the best. But you look at the overall period and it was under Dhoni where we have blossomed and had a lot of glory. I can think of tons of football names who were actually better players but just because the team had struggled, those players were comparatively seen lower to those who were part of the good times. And it was Dhoni, where lead us to win and be part of it.
you cant regret the fact we have one of the best ODI team in the recent times which led us to have more glories these days. dhoni is not that extra ordinary as you are hyping if that is true then why couldn he manage to win us in England and australia in tests ? most captains would be successful while leading the best team. m sure any thinking captain would have made at least a small difference in that 0-8 period(which includes 5 or 6 innings defeat)

you do not have to look at the records to come to the conclusion that he is the best. yeah, I guess having a good team didn't have anything to do with. Dhoni just came in, waved a magic wand and we became World Champions!!!! BTW, go look at the team from the 90s and then we'll talk about why there was a lack of "glory moments" during that time. Also look at who the top performer of the team was then (as he was in the 2000s :winky:). I don't recall people judging Lara to be any less of a great simply because Windies was a poor team the whole time he played. Dhoni's entire contribution with the bat in the WC was that one innings in the Final - thats it.

Sachin having played much more matches will likely have more number of wins which also means more number of losses. But simply wins do not qualify or mean glory moments. With Dhoni, there are several occurrences where he has lead the team to glory. When both retire, no one will remember the wins, they will remember the glory and with Dhoni, it's a greater feature.
Again you seem to confuse glory moments as player and captain. Dhoni has won a lot more and hence has as captain has more glory momnets. As player, his contribution is as a finisher/WK. Finishing, which is one of the toughest jobs in ODIs, requires some degree of support from top order. The fact that he got it on many occasions, is a pointer to his high success rate as a finisher. Sachin, with a beast of a finisher like Dhoni in the '90s would have had many such "glory moments".

Few things go against Dhoni , if you take a poll in an Indian forum . Tendulkar Fans Ganguly Fans Dhoni haters . Thats the bulk of them & few would pick tendulkar over Dhoni for cricketing reasons . Tendulkar scored a lot of runs , cant argue with that . As a batsmen hes better than msd , technique or talent wise , but MSDs impact on has been far greater than Tendulkar who chose to take safer roles inspite of being a superior player . Even otherwise finisher >>> Top order bat . its much more difficult to come down the order and bat according to situation than opening .

one of the best ODI teams recently cos of Dhonis finishing skills . its not coincidence that we are near unbeatable chasing totals , but suck when we bat first . Cant you see the differnce in the team which played in CT and now in WI ?

Another lame logic! Then I think we should have finishers from top to bottom!

without Tendulkar rather . Dhawan & Rhoit proved that how easy it is to open in ODI's. err ..in CT we aer unbeaten .
yes thats what m saying we've one of the best ODI side atm, we're unbeaten in the CT but whats his contribution apart from leading a side full of inform players

why is it lame ? the point is you will find loads of tope order bats , but its not easy to find finishers . Look at Amla's stats ( he would not avg 35 if he bats at 4 or lower ) . Flat pitches , field restrictions & zero pressure . No wonder everyone wants to bat up the order .

Gotta agree there but it goes both ways. They can't live without hating either player.
