Divvy
Sachin. Why there is even a thread to "discuss" this? Dhoni will surely be in top 10 currently and will be in top 5 while he retires.. There are few more great ODI players between Sachin and Dhoni.. Link to comment
DomainK
I don't know why Debashish Mohanty is always ignored in such discussions. That spell against Pakistan in 99 world cup was fantastic. Can even Sachin do that? Link to comment
Divvy
No cricketer, let alone Sachin, has the bowling action like Mohanty. :-) Sarcasm aside, Sachin's magical last over against SA in hero cup semi's was fantastic. Very few in the world cricket can do that Link to comment
Sidhoni
There are some people who judge a player by how he performs in big matches. What Sachin did in 2 WC finals is known to everyone! Link to comment

kubrickian
you still didnt give answer to OP question. :sherlock: I said both are great. :beee: One as the greatest ODI batsman of all time and other as a great finisher and captain. Link to comment

Sidhoni
That post was just a (lame) dig. Obviously an opener and a no. 6 batsman + WK + captain can't be compared. Though you will have to agree it is harder to replace Dhoni than Sachin. We produce many world class batsman, though not in same league as SRT, but we rarely find WKB's and captains like Dhoni. Austin 3:!6
Now you will have the padosis arguing that this thread is fixed. :headshake: Parosis yet to produce a batsman who scored 10K runs in ODI cricket..let alone talking abt Sachin:giggle: Link to comment
Divvy
So? All these years he carried the whole team on his back, it's time for us to carry him. Link to comment

Muloghonto
err Sachin the ODI batsman is practically unreplacable. Sachin didnt just score runs, he scored centuries more frequently than anyone else in ODI cricket, particularly if you consider that all his centuries (49) came in a 375 match stretch. That is unbelievable, the guy scored a ton every year for 19 years! nine teen ! Also, he is miles and miles ahead of any top order bat when it comes to runs scored vs OZ, RSA and Pakistan, the three awesome bowling units of his time. The thing that is irreplacable about Tendy isnt just the sheer magnitude of his runs or that he scored centuries every 7 innings, its his consistency- tendy very rarely went more than 5-6 matches without scoring a ton or 90s. For nearly two decades, Tendy very rarely had even a 10 match strech where he struggled. That is irreplacable, really. Link to comment

We produce many world class batsmen BECAUSE we had a Sachin. Don't forget that. Most of these youngsters (including Dravid) grew up admiring Sachin and practicing to be a batsman, he was the reason many took up a cricket bat and made cricket their career. Dhoni too says this. Lets not take our batting for granted. We had Gavaskar who inspired Sachin but Sachin's popularity inspired so many of our current batsmen Hopefully Dhoni will inspire more big hitters and captains from India in the future Link to comment
