BCCI to focus on more home games

NEW DELHI: The Indian cricket board (BCCI) is planning to host two-and-a-half months to three months of international cricket at home every year during the peak season from October to March end. The BCCI is now working towards scheduling its new itinerary without hurting overseas bilateral and ICC commitments. A BCCI official told TOI that after discussions within the working committee, it was unanimously decided that BCCI should focus on more international cricket at home from next year onwards. Sources also said the board was committed towards providing more home matches to the official broadcaster. If the move is implemented, BCCI's domestic calendar could mirror that of other top cricket- playing nations like Australia, England and South Africa. "If you see these teams, they have more or less fixed dates for hosting top visiting teams. Just look at the Boxing Day Tests in Australia and South Africa. BCCI is working on those lines," the official said. This month, India will be hosting Australia for a one-off T20 match and seven ODIs, to be followed by three ODIs and two Tests against West Indies. Title rights for three years? After working out a detailed home itinerary, the BCCI will then share it with the broadcaster and interested sponsors. Due to the economic slowdown, BCCI has floated title rights tender only for one year this time but is planning to issue fresh tenders next year for at least three to four years. "Hopefully by that time, the market will improve," a source said. Brabourne not in fray for Sachin's 200th Test match Cricket Club of India is not in the fray to host Sachin Tendulkar's 200th Test match at Brabourne. "It's going to be between Mumbai (Wankhede) and Kolkata (Eden Gardens) for sure but no other venue is in the fray to host the match," an official said.
