AVB Sacked

^I think he is the manager of Russia... maybe Hiddink... dont know where he is these days. But he likes these rescue operations. With the players they have any manager would like it. Martin Jol is looking for work :cantstop: Considering it is a few months after Spurs largest ever PL points haul and just 4 or 5 pts off 4th spot it is harsh. At the same time though can not lose 5-0 at home to a side who is a direct competitor for a top 4 spot. And from the sounds of things they were woeful. AVB has only been in management for a short while and in his mid 30's, credit to the guy for making it. I read that they played a very high defensive line just weeks after Man City smashed them for it. And with CBs who are not the quickest vs probably the best striker in the world right now. So he has been found out tactically. Alot of the change at Spurs seemed almost to be for the sake of it. Why offload Caulker and Huddlestone and get Capoue and Chiceres, the former two probably better players if anything. The strikers not being able to score is an issue, in hindisght Soldado may be a mistake but he dosent get anything like the service he needs. Lennon and Tonwsend should start on the wings and not as 'inverted' wingers, get them running to the byline and crossing in. The player off the striker needs to be closer tucked in, Gylfi should be playing there for me, he had a run of games where he scored a few not sure why he has not featured. AVB seems to want to play guys he has brought in just to show they can play, when there might be better options from last seasons.. Chaldi/Townsend is one..Paulinho should sit deeper alongside Sandro and Gylfi (ideally Eriksen, or even Lamela? behind the striker) Too many first teamers played in midweek vs Anzhi when theyd already won the group. Injury hit in defence too really missed Vertonghen.

sums it up. Still think harsh as against Liverpool got raped 1st half. Then 2nd half doing well until paulinio got sent off. Liverpool were superb And what now? Who next? Difficult to find a manager

The Zonal Marking site is very good and has a good analysis of this match, and effectively what is wrong with AVB as a manager. http://www.zonalmarking.net/2013/12/16/tottenham-0-5-liverpool-villas-boas-sacked/#more-10092 Villas-Boas enjoyed great success with a high line at Porto - although even there, the high defensive line seemed very risky at times. It’s the defining feature of his coaching style, and while it’s not a flawed tactic in itself, Villas-Boas repeatedly used it in situations where it didn’t suit his own players, and played into the hands of the opposition. That, put simply, is the opposite of the point of tactics… The damning aspect isn’t the scoreline itself, or even the fact this was so similar to the City defeat. It’s that Villas-Boas he appeared to have learned his lesson from the City game, and changed his strategy accordingly…and then reverted to the high line against the Premier League’s most prolific striker, who loves running in behind defences. Sometimes bad results are unfortunate – you can lose 5-0 if a couple of players have an off-day, or if opponents are particularly clinical with their shooting. But when Villas-Boas’ sides get thrashed, the strategy always plays a huge part, and it’s generally the same issue.

Nah crazy sacking. Levy gone power mad We are currently above man utd!! 100% record in Europa, still in all cups. Only a few points of champs league. Yes bad loss but we did have man sent off and prior to that 7 points from 9!! I am sorry but at least a few more games to see what happens and give him a chance

Tim Sherwoods first game in charge: Lennon on the right, Townsend on the left, two man front line of Defoe and Ade, Gylfi in central mid.. even if AVB never went for a 4-4-2 , he could have put a few of those things into place and had a bit mroe success
