ROUND ONE, DAY 4: Saurashtra 291 (Pujara 64, Thakur 6-73) and 273 (Pujara 109, Thakur 5-73) drew with Himachal Pradesh 181 (Makvana 6-41) and 220 for 4 (Gupta 104, Mannu 57) Scorecard Himachal Pradesh rallied around Ashok Thakur's second five-wicket haul in the match, and a maiden first-class hundred from opener Manish Gupta, to draw with Saurashtra at Dharamsala. By virtue of a first-innings lead Saurashtra took three points to HP's one, and but lost their last four wickets for 47 runs in the morning. Cheteshwar Pujara added just three to his overnight 106 as Thakur, who took 6 for 73 in the first innings, finished with 5 for 73. With an unattainable target of 384, HP lost two early wickets but Gupta, with 104 from 144 balls, and Ajay Mannu, with 57 from 93, steadied the ship. spacer.gif318617.jpg?alt=1 Hemal Watekar hit his second hundred of the game at Dharamsala © Cricinfo Ltd Andhra 334 (Watekar 137, MSK Prasad 51) and 287 for 0 (Watekar 100*, Reddy 114*, Varma 58*) drew with Punjab 372 (Kaul 144, Dharmani 94) lead Scorecard Andhra made Punjab toil in the field, hitting 287 for no loss on a fourth-day pitch, but the hosts took three first-innings-lead points from their draw at Amritsar. Pankaj Dharmani declared at Punjab's overnight 372 for 9, just 38 runs ahead of Andhra, but none of his bowlers could manage a wicket as the top order weighed in. Hemal Watekar followed up his first-innings century with 100 from 146 balls before retiring hurt, and fellow opener Prasad Reddy finished with an unbeaten 114*, his fourth first-class ton. For good measure, No. 3 Satya Kumar Varma chipped in with an unbeaten 58 from 86 balls to deny Punjab. Medium-fast bowler Gagandeep Singh, who took 4 for 53 in Andhra's first innings, did not bowl and his absence was felt on the final day. Mumbaii 337 (Naik 78, Kukreja 66, Jaffer 55) and 70 for 2 drew with Karnataka 195 (Akhil 57, Powar 5-69) and 397 for 6 dec (Dravid 214, Pawan 80) Scorecard Rahul Dravid found his true form on the last day of this match, hitting a double-century to guide Karnataka to a draw against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium. Karnataka made 397 for 6 at tea before declaring to set Mumbai a target of 256 in 32 overs, 17 of which had gone by before both captains settled on a draw. Mumbai secured three points for their first-innings lead while Karnataka got one. The wicket had baffled many: it offered great assistance on the first day, which Ramesh Powar exploited, and lost its venom as the moisture evaporated. Also, Karnataka were guilty of being overcautious in the first innings and conceded the vital lead to Mumbai. Dravid said the regular fall of wickets didn't allow them to attack. "We kept losing regular wickets, lot of players in our team are quite young as well and it would have been a good education for them to play a quality attack." The final day belonged to Dravid who blasted 137 runs from 152 balls with 11 boundaries and three sixes. There were no big celebrations after he reached his hundred - off 213 balls - in the first session, with a dab to third man. He acknowledged his ton with a small raise of the bat towards the dressing room, then at the 50-odd spectators who'd bothered to turn up. He offered a similar reaction after bringing up his double hundred, in the second session, with a sweep to the square-leg boundary. Dravid, while understandably happy, wished he had contributed more in the first innings. "It is satisfying to have played a innings that helped the team. It would have been better had I played a big knock in the first innings. To be honest 195 was never going to be enough, we needed at least 300 but credit to them. Ajit got couple of wickets early and Ramesh [Powar] bowled very well." In an otherwise smooth innings, Dravid had three moments of concern: on 110, he survived a run-out chance when C Raghu called him for injudicious single but Wasim Jaffer didn't find the target from square leg; on 191 he checked a drive off a slower delivery from Abhishek Nayar, who spilled the return catch and on 198 another run-out chance went begging as Amol Muzumdar missed from cover. Dravid started off with a fluent drive through covers off Iqbal Abdulla and continued to bat positively as the new ball was taken in the fourth over of the day. Dravid showed his full repertoire of strokes - there was a hook and a pull, two crashing drives over cover, a steer to third man, a leg glance, a cut and a few lofted drives against the spinners to the straight boundary. He hit three sixes too, sending the ball out of the ground on one occasion when he swung Abdulla over long-on. Mumbai's bowlers could not keep him in check. Ajit Agarkar, who removed KB Pawan with a full-length delivery that took the edge off a loose drive, sent down a series of bouncers but Dravid went for the horizontal shots. Ramesh Powar, introduced in the 20th over of the day, also didn't cause any major problems. Dravid, at times, went down the track or made room by going back and twice swinging him over the midwicket. Raghu looked to get forward to play before he fell, under-edging a pull that wicketkeeper Vinayak Samant took sharply down the leg side. Encouraged by that wicket, Powar stuck to the middle and leg line, spinning into the hips, with a short leg and backward short leg in attendance, but could not break through. Abdulla, who mostly bowled over the wicket aiming for the rough, picked up his first Ranji Trophy wicket in his 41st over of the match when Yere Goud scooped one to cover. Abdulla picked two more easy wickets as Karnataka went for quick runs before the declaration. The bat continued to dominate in the second session before Dravid fell after facing 333 balls in 437 minutes to a tired pull shot off Abdulla to deep midwicket. He was one short of his highest Ranji score - 215 against Uttar Pradesh, 10 seasons back in a Ranji final. When Mumbai batted the second time, Vinay Kumar removed Wasim Jaffer in an identical fashion to the first innings, cleaning up his off stump with an incutter as he was caught at the crease, and trapped Sahil Kukreja in front but the fate of the game was sealed by then. . Maharashtra 430 (Takawale 76, R Ashwin 6-133) drew with Tamil Nadu 338 for 7 (Badrinath 72, Srinivasan 62, Karthik 56, Ashwin 51*) Scorecard Tamil Nadu fought back from an overnight 58 for 3 to finish 338 for 7 in their rain-hit draw with Maharashtra at Chennai. There were no hundreds, but fifties from Dinesh Karthik, S Badrinath, Rajhamany Srinivasan and R Ashwin helped the host complete a facile draw. Ashwin, after taking 6 for 133, scored his maiden half-century in his just sixth match. Both teams shared one point each. [Note: No news on why Badri retired hurt?] ROUND ONE, DAY 3 Rajasthan 85 and 188 for 7 (Khoda 71, Bist 50*) require another 234 runs to beat Delhi 119 and 387 (Manhas 100, Bhatia 83, Pankaj 5-110) Scorecard Mithun Manhas' hundred and Rajat Bhatia's 83 took Delhi to 387 before the home side's bowlers, led by legbreak bowler Chetanya Nanda, took seven Rajasthan wickets on day three at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Manhas duly moved from an overnight 86 to 100, but Bhatia could only add 18 to his score in the morning as fast bowler Pankaj Singh took his second five-wicket haul in the game to bowl Delhi out. Gagan Khoda (71) and Robin Bist (50*) battled hard but there was little support against Nanya (3 for 61) and Delhi's opening duo, Pradeep Sangwan and Amit Bhandari. Rajasthan need 234 to win, but with the pitch suddenly cracking, it is Delhi's game tomorrow. Hyderabad 227 (Shinde 90) and 86 for 3 trail Bengal 461 by 148 runs Scorecard Bowled out for 227 in 79.1 overs, Hyderabad were forced to follow on and finished day three 158 runs behind Bengal's 461 at Eden Gardens. Resuming the third day 386 runs behind Bengal, Hyderabad combusted further and needed a career-best from Amol Shinde, in his third game, to get them to a respectable total. He added 74 for the eighth wicket with Pragyan Ojha (35) but fell to Saurashish Lahiri ten short of a maiden hundred. Lahiri picked up his fourth wicket to finish the innings, and following-on, Hyderabad slipped to 86 for 3 by stumps, all three wickets falling to Murtaza Lodhgar's slow left-arm spin.

why apoco.. he did well against england in england.. he should retain his slot, just like how kumble would retain.. even though perforrmed poory in first inning in the ranji game against mumbai thing is players like kumble might get beaten in F.C cricket, but they would surely perform against the International sides... and he is the best in India to get the spinner slot... same applies for Laxman.. letz retain him for both pak and aus tour..

For Chandan :

Badrinath found a good foil in debutant R.Srinivasan and the two added 66 valuable runs in 16 overs when the former was retired hurt, making a superb knock of 72 (9x4,3x6). Badrinath developed cramps on his left foot and soon retired as he developed giddiness after vomitting on field.

Selectors are watching carefully these Ranji matches. These are kind of selection criteria for the upcoming tests and tour. Maybe these performances would have a negative impact on his selection

An outright victory! This will increase their confidence as so many of their regular players are missing: Sehwag, Gambhir, Ishant, Nehra et al. Well done!
