I'm particularly worried about the Indian test players. Kumble could get just one wicket after toiling so hard, Laxman was dismissed for a duck, and in the first inning Dravid had looked out of sorts. But thankfully he is back in his rhythm in the second inning with a good solid unbeaten 77. Our pace bowlers are going to be too tired after the ODI series. I just do not know why we can't rest Zaheer! Sree is needlessly wasting his time warming the bench and RPS is going to be tired too by the time this ODI series ends! What about Sachin and Ganguly? Can't they take their eyes off this ODI series to get in the groove for the longer, tougher version? And then Dinesh Karthik--he isn't even opening for his state. Why??

The gist of today's matches are given by apocalypse in the above post so I'd do the quick round-up from cricinfo with links to scorecards: First round, 3rd Day KARNATAKA vs MUMBAI: Scorecard Karnataka batted their way out of trouble and towards a position of strength on a track that got progressively slow, wiping out the 142-run first-innings deficit and ending the third day with a 53-run lead against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium. The batting was propelled by KB Pawan and Rahul Dravid, who scored 76 and 77 and put on an unbroken 126-run partnership, after Vinay Kumar grabbed three quick wickets to wrap up Mumbai's innings in the morning. Only four wickets fell on the day as Karnataka made slow progress - barring the first ten overs - at 2.53 runs per over. The intent, it seemed, was to first avoid defeat before thinking about the possibility of a win. They might up the ante tomorrow, declare with 200 ahead and leave around 50 overs for Anil Kumble and Sunil Joshi to come into play on a fourth-day track. However, the openers were refreshingly positive early on. Rowland, out for a duck in the first innings, got a huge stride forward and, though Ajit Agarkar did beat him on a couple of occasions, he put away the bad balls, twice driving Rajesh Verma through the covers. When Agarkar bowled two bouncers in an effort to push him on the back foot, Rowland went for the cut and the pull, top-edging one to the third man boundary. Though the execution wasn't perfect, the intent to attack was obvious. Pawan, edgy throughout his stay in the first innings, hit his stride slowly. He drove Verma through the covers and got behind the line of Agarkar's deliveries before Mumbai turned to spin, in the form of Ramesh Powar, in the tenth over. Powar flighted a majority of deliveries and pushed the occasional one through but couldn't repeat his first-innings magic on a track that had lost its venom. Rowland fell soon after lunch, missing an intended drive off Rajesh Verma, which brought in Dravid. Unlike the first innings, Dravid made a tentative start: he was beaten by the fourth delivery he faced, was struck on the pad by the eighth and was cut into half by the tenth. Two balls later, though, he hit a gorgeous straight drive off Verma and followed up that boundary with a shot driven straight into the stumps at the other end. Amol Muzumdar, Mumbai's captain, chose to attack him with Iqbal Abdulla. With a silly point and short leg in place, Abdulla pushed through deliveries on the middle-stump line. Dravid let a few to turn past him and jabbed at one which flew to the non-existent backward short leg. Powar came on from the pavilion end and Dravid used the crease well, going back to create the length for his dabs. After a few deliveries that turned in from outside off came one similar to the ball that got him out in the first innings: the ball landed on the middle and off stump and spun in as Dravid leaned forward to defend. However, on this occasion, the turn was slow and allowed Dravid the time to roll his wrists over the ball and play it just short of backward short leg. The next one was a lovely flighted delivery that dipped rapidly causing Dravid to check his drive. Dravid went into a mini-shell after that, stuck on 19 as he played out 14 deliveries, before he asserted himself against Powar: twice in succession he waltzed down the track to swing flighted deliveries over long-on, forcing Powar out of the attack. There was solid support from Pawan who, by then, batting fluently. When Powar shortened the length, Pawan was quick to pull. One such shot fell agonisingly beyond the outstretched hand of Wasim Jaffer, who had run in too far from deep midwicket before heading back. Undeterred by that close shave, Pawan pulled another short delivery over Jaffer's head for the first six by a Karnataka batsman in the match. The duo continued to consolidate in the last session - 47 runs came in 22 overs - as proceedings slowly grinded to a halt. Earlier, Kumar was rewarded for his fuller length, and his day's figures read 6-1-13-3. Agarkar fell first, trapped in front as he played across the line, Vinayak Samant went to a fatal flirt outside off stump for Thilak Naidu to hold a fine diving catch to his right and the left-handed Abdulla was caught plumb in front to a delivery that straightened. UP vs ORISSA :Scorecard Debutant medium-pacer Sudeep Tyagi completed a ten-wicket haul on Ranji Trophy debut to get Uttar Pradesh's 2006-07 campaign off to a great start, as the visitors beat Orissa by an innings and ten runs at Cuttack. Tyagi, who took 6 for 46 in the first innings, picked up 4 for 46 on the third day, after UP posted 448, to rout Orissa for 222. After Piyush Chawla's 69 helped extend UP's overnight lead, Tyagi nipped out two early wickets to leave Orissa 15 for 3. Chawla himself spun out three wickets, and the writing was on the wall. Allrounder Pinninti Jayachandra hit his second half-century of the match, and wicketkeeper Halhadar Das 71, but with no other support Orissa succumbed in the third session. UP's large total owed plenty to Suresh Raina's 203 from 217 balls, his maiden double-century, after UP had been 35 for 3. PUNJAB vs ANDHRA :Scorecard Uday Kaul hit a career-best 144 and Pankaj Dharmani missed another first-class hundred by six runs as Punjab made slow progress against Andhra at Amritsar, finishing the third day 38 runs ahead with one wicket standing. The rookie, 19 and in his tenth game, and veteran, who became Punjab's highest run-scorer in the Ranji Trophy in his 120th appearance, extended their overnight stand to 181 but Andhra hit back with lower-order wickets. Punjab never tried to force the pace, however, content with having taken the first-innings lead and with it two points, and a tame draws looms on the fourth day. HYDERABAD vs BENGAL:Scorecard Manoj Tiwary stamped his authority over Hyderabad at Eden Gardens with a characteristically aggressive 203, and debutant wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha a fine 111, before Bengal left the visitors reeling at 65 for 5 by stumps on day three. Tiwary, who took Bengal to 289 for 5 by the close on day two, hit an inexperienced Hyderabad attack around the ground to record a career-best knock, studded with 28 fours and two sixes. Saha, 23, became the 15th Bengal player to score a hundred on Ranji debut with 15 fours and a six during his 194-ball effort. He added 177 for the fifth wicket with Tiwary and crucially shepherded the tail to 461 Weighed down by the mountain of runs, Hyderabad capitulated against a disciplined bowling attack, spearheaded by Shib Shankar Paul. Though Ranadeb Bose struck first, Paul broke the spine of the Hyderabad line-up by removing captain VVS Laxman for a four-ball duck and then got top-scorer Ravi Teja (39 from 58 balls). Still 386 runs behind, Hyderabad are up against it. http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ranjisuperleague/engine/current/match/306296.html'> DELHI vs RAJASTHAN : Scorecard Led by Virat Kohli's maiden first-class hundred, Delhi forced a complete turnaround at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, taking a 351-run lead after being dismissed for 119 on day one. Delhi had been 24 for 2 early on the third day but Kohli was superb, seeing them out of danger with 106 from 192 balls. Delhi's position was then solidified with a 123-run unbeaten stand between Mithun Manhas, on 86, and Rajat Bhatia, on 65, but it remains to be seen how early Manhas declares the innings on the final day. Twenty wickets fell on a manic first day, but the track has eased out nicely and Delhi's bowlers will need another excellent display to take ten Rajasthan wickets. SAURASHTRA vs HP : Scorecard Offspinner Kamlesh Makvana picked up career-best figures of 6 for 41 to dismiss Himachal Pradesh for 181 - from an overnight 175 for 8 - before Cheteshwar Pujara hit an unbeaten 103 to extend Saurashtra's lead to 326 at Dharamsala. Ashok Thakur, the left-arm medium-pacer, grabbed four wickets to leave Saurashtra 83 for 5, but Pujara, during the course of his fifth first-class century, added an unbroken 100 with Rakesh Dhurv (39 not out) to take the side to 216 for 6. Pujara has so far faced 190 balls and hit ten boundaries. TN vs MAHARASHTRA :Scorecard Maharashtra's lower order rallied to take their total from 274 for 4 to 430 before restricting Tamil Nadu to 58 for 3 on the third day at Chennai. The inclement weather abated - after only 3.2 overs were possible on day two - but Maharashtra piled on the misery for TN. Yogesh Takawale made 79 and debutants Vishal Bhilare and Ashish Suryawanshi scored a pair of forties from down the order as the visitors slowly ticked along. Once R Ashwin, the talented young offspinner, grabbed the final wicket to finish with 6 for 133, TN's top order stuttered to 58 for 3 by stumps. ---------------------------------------------------------- So few matches are really boring like Punjab-Andhra and TN-Maharashtra.

Ton up for Dravid. He is still going strong on 118*, though he lost his overnight partner, Pawan. And TN have lost 4 wickets, yet no signs of Badrinath? Where has he gone? Is he injured or what? Delhi has strengthened its position further by taking a lead of 389 runs, but will its bowlers be able to take 10 wickets for an outright victory? Punjab declared on 372, and Maharashtra is adding runs rapidly? Another draw looming large here?
