CS Pandit as coach

Jesus, he's done an incredible job for Mumbai. Over the years, we've been terrific under him - particularly with those two Ranji trophy wins a few seasons ago, but this really ought to be his highlight as coach. Three games into the Ranji, we were facing relegation. No batsmen - Jaffer called up, Mane trying to recover from injuries, Indulkar on the outer and Kambli now off the radar - and no bowlers either with Agarkar either away with the national team or injured, and Powar struggling for form. Lots of new faces. Our best batting hope, after Amol Muzumdar, was a young kid called Rohit Sharma who is a hell of a talent, but admittedly had never played for Mumbai before the start of this season. Teething problems for a new generation were to be expected. When trying out so many guys, there were bound to be failures here and there, and we had no points after three matches. Three more games later, we're in the semis. What's more, the lineup is starting to regain the sheen it wore in old days when Muzumdar, Jaffer, Kambli and company could belt runs all over and the likes of Indulkar and Mane meant a bright future. Rohit Sharma's turning the talent into runs, other youngsters without his talent or press like Kukreja, Hiken Shah and Thakkar are adding to it, Muzumdar's leading from the front once more and Abhishek Nair at 6 seems to be the all rounder we've been searching for. The bowling's still weak, but it's never been a strong point. But most importantly, we're not facing relegation and the prospect of being a laughing stock. Instead there's a semi next week we have a very good chance of dominating with our batting lineup against, and there's again a very strong core. Regardless of how this season turns out, Pandit deserves a lot of plaudits once more for what he's done with this Mumbai team - and this time, it's been much harder work than ever before with the side hit by injuries, age and callups.

Re: CS Pandit as coach Totally agreed! I wonder how much credit should be given to pandit for this turnaround. I reckon it has to be full because he basically took the same bunch of players from zeroes to heroes. And that deserves applause. Abhishek Nair is very very exciting prospect - big hitting Allrounder who started out as a bowler. Rohit Sharma made his maiden a dibby, star value that. Its all lookin far rosier. The icing will be another ranji medal.
