Aaron seems to be out of favour too at the moment.

Neither bowling in the nets nor playing for any A teams.

Hard for him to be picked for India A recently having not played much recently other than his zonal games

But him being picked for a high amount shows what teams think of him, so he is clearly on the radar and that's a good sign.

Needs a good VH Trophy now and IPL and he will surely be fast tracked. Kohli would love to have this kind of guy.

He was released by RCB, our captain's team.... how much does staying in the radar of other IPL teams mean for an established player who is not great in T20s   ?

There is also the issue of not bowling at the nets.

Ya, I think RCB should have kept him but they have been thinking too much right no after Starc called it quits.

VH trophy is where he has to perform well now. Good format even for his fitness. I hope he stays fit now so he can show that he can be livked for Test in future.

Him and Yuki Bhambri are two Indian sportsmen with similar injury history. Both have the ability to be the best of the best within heir games, but have not been managed well and have gotten injured at the wrong time in their careers.

The net bowling is probably to give exposure/ look at pacers with potential that have never been in the test squad.

Yes, here. He did not play every game but bowled decently there.

Aaron is not called in the nets coz he is not a rookie n intact is experienced in terms of time in India colors or squad, he had a freak injury n I have no doubt he will be in the scheme of things after IPL as we will be touring away mostly next year or two

Even before Aaron became injured , it was Shardul Thakur who was part of the test squad as the 5th seamer on the tour to the West Indies.

That means, he is not among the top 5 seamers as of today, even for test matches.

He has not played at all at any levels for last 12 months...

Varun  has to seriously take care of himself else he will go down in history as the fastest Indian bowler who failed in his career.

I found him more talented and faster than umesh...

Possibly the most gifted fast bowler along with Srinath.

What has he achieved till date...some big money thru ipl else nothing much.

He  needs to realise that If he maintains his health he could be a certainty in India 11.

Aaron went on the the last A tour to Australia in August-September 2016  ( 6 months ago )  and played both the Unofficial Tests and a couple of one day matches.  Generally bowled accurately and with pace on that tour.

He  then played around 3 Ranji Trophy matches for Jharkhand.

He had a freak heel injury after that  and missed the rest of the Ranji Season.

He came back after that and played all the 4 state-level SMA Trophy games few days ago.... picking up 8 wickets in 4 matches.

Was not selected for the zonal stage of SMA Trophy.

1st   Test   vs.  Australia

Speed ranges of most deliveries   ( excluding slower balls )

Umesh  137 k to 147 k

Ishant   137 k to 144 k.

Umesh  is slowly becoming the bowler we always wanted him  to be.  In the last 8 months, we have been seeing him combining accuracy with the natural pace that he has and getting reverse swing both ways when available.  Results are bound to come when this happens.  After his dream spell against Bangladesh,  today too we saw him pick up 4 wickets on a flat track for seamers. His 3rd spell was the best, when he bowled some jaffas one after the other and picked two wickets off consecutive balls in that spell.  Batsmen are unable to pick up his full swinging deliveries which are either coming in or going away at high pace and sometimes moving off the seam too.

Wicket taking is a as much a matter of habit and confidence, as it is of skills.... and I feel that we may see him picking  a lot more wickets from now on.   But he must always remember to use the surprise bouncers regularly to maximize his returns.

Ishant bowled well today. Bowled in the right areas mostly, generated high speeds even during the last spell of the day and got some reverse-swing, mostly inswing.  Did not get any wickets but was very steady and kept up the pressure from his end.

Ishant was getting good bounce on a dry surface...not the bounce that will sit up for the batsman to hit ...but bounce off a good length at least in the first couple of overs I saw.

but fantastic stuff by Umesh
