Speeds and Performances of Pacers and Spinners

Recommended Posts

Impressive from Bhuvi. Must say that the face of Indian bowling has been changing so much and the crowd and the media has been stressing on pace so much, that a medium pacer has added atleast 5-10k to his pace!

There was a time when genuine fast bowlers like munaf patel used to reduce their pace by 10k because the management used to force them.

This is a welcome change, and great work by Bhuvi. Btw, the only reason why batsmen still hit him on the front foot is because of their mindset. They still consider him medium pace. All bhuvi needs to do is bowl some nasty bouncers, hit them a bit and the perception will change.

The speed gun cannot selectively give higher speeds for Bhuvi

Umesh, Cummins etc. have been bowling their normal speeds.

The probable reason why Bhuvi was not looking very quick visually was  because he did not hit the deck hard and could not extract life out of the pitch.  Shami, Umesh and Ishant hit the deck hard usually and can extract life out of pitches.

Bhuvi will be lethel in countries like England and Newzealand ,if he maintains similar speeds.Maybe even SA too.

Great if the speeds are correct. Let's see if he can maintain similar speeds in 2nd innings.

This pitch is ideal for hit-the-deck seam bowlers.   There is bounce and some seam movement but little swing ( conventional or reverse ).

Shami would have been ideal here.  It is ironic that Ishant was played on typical low-bounce Indian pitches and the only track where he had some chance to contribute, he is sitting on the bench.

Even Aniket C would have got something out of this track.

Yes, that is i was saying too and people were saying I am favoring Ishant. I dont want Ishant in matches played on typical Indian pitches but this is not one. This has more bounce than typical Indian pitches and bit more movement off the seam.

Bangalore had good bounce.

Bangalore did have bounce.Lyon who depends more on bounce than spin did well.As did Hazlewood

Lyon had success only in the first innings and not because of bounce but because the pitch had a moist patch outside off stump from where ball jumped and turned big. He did zilch in 2nd innings as the pitch dried out.

4th test vs Australia, 2nd innings

Speed ranges of most  deliveries ( excluding slower balls )

Umesh    137 k to 145 k

Bhuvi      133 k to 138 k

We saw a fiery spell of genuine fast bowling from Umesh today.  The pitch had some bounce and he made full use of it.  Bowled with a lot of heart, ran in hard and hit the deck harder.  He had the Aussie batsmen hopping and jumping regularly and hit them on the body atleast 3 times. Bowled a very good line too, with lots of channel deliveries. Got some seam movement and some reverse swing both ways in his 2nd spell.  Got the desired result with 3 wickets and a dropped catch from only 10 overs.

Bhuvi  bowled well too.  It was heartening to see him hit the deck hard on occasions and get good carry.  Hit Warner with a nasty delivery and was good support to Umesh.   Generally bowled in good areas, got some swing in the early overs and kept up the pressure from his end.  he got the crucial wicket of Smith and a catch was dropped off his bowling.

Ishant bowls 2 bouncers / short balls in a row to  Renshaw .... then pitches one up .... he is not confident of coming forward..... gets trapped LBW

This is such a simple and age-old strategy used by pacers

Why don't we use it more often  !!!!

Indian fast bowlers used this age-old strategy again today in the 2nd innings..... and got the desired results.

There were lots of hostile short balls bowled, which made the batsmen uncomfortable and pushed them on the back foot. They were not sure of coming forward.... confusion was created in their minds as to whether to come forward or go back.... and our quicks picked up 4 wickets + 2 dropped catches in only 17 overs..... from the follow-up good length, channel deliveries.

We need to do this regularly in every match.

Even though Cummins was the batsman here, look at the way Umesh is using the crease. Reversing the ball both ways. He has that ball on a string. Not bad for a "brainless" phassst bowler.

U can't blame chamchas for using the word coined by captain cool himself.
