express bowling
Why are there so few fielders in catching positions when the quicks are bowling ? We have 622 runs on board and the opposition is 84 for 4 !! Umesh was bowling to Dickwella... there was only one slip standing at 2nd slip and there was no gully.... a slash went for a 4 through gully at a catchable height. Indeed, an excellent spell by Umesh ! He pitched most deliveries around the off-stump good length area and made the batters play. He got small seam movements both ways and some outswing on occasions. express bowling
Shami bowls Herath with an attempted yorker which dips in a bit. Beaten for pace. 2nd wicket of the over. Edited August 5, 2017 by express bowling RAZPOR and Mosher 2 Link to comment
express bowling
Shami hits the batsman on the chest with a 144 k bouncer. Follows it with a 143 k straight ball directed at the off-stump. Good bowling. Edited August 5, 2017 by express bowling RAZPOR, Mosher and Rightarmfast 3 Link to comment
express bowling
The biggest difference between Shami and Umesh is that.... Shami mixes up lengths, slips in the bouncers and rising balls, keeps the batsmen guessing and tries to set up batsmen. Looks dangerous most of the times he bowls. Umesh is a bit reluctant to mix up lengths. When he bowls fuller, he just does so and when he bowls short, he just goes on doing that. ( When he mixes up lengths, like the Dharamsala test against Australia, he becomes unplayable ) Edited August 5, 2017 by express bowling RAZPOR, Rightarmfast and Mosher 3 Link to comment

The over in which which Umesh got Tharanga.... the 4th ball was a shortish rising ball, the 5th ball moved away from length and the 6th ball moved in from length. This is the perfect set-up.... keeping the batsman guessing regarding both length as well as the direction of movement..... results in a wicket. Umesh needs to do this more often to get his wicket-count up. Edited August 5, 2017 by express bowling RAZPOR, Vilander and Mosher 3 Link to comment

express bowling
Pandya has bowled a lot of slower balls today ( perhaps because the pitch has become really slow ) and got a wicket from one. Mosher and RAZPOR 2 Link to comment
vishalvirsingh
pandya bowled a seriously good cutter offspin Slow ball after bowling 136K .. Kohli should trust hardik more..he seems a good intelligent wicket taking bowler who knows how to bowl bouncers. Mosher, RAZPOR and tweaker 3 Link to comment
express bowling
This pitch has no help for the seamers ( and has become slower and slower with time ) but both our quicks have bowled well in this test. They have mostly bowled in the right areas and tried to target the off-stump, hit the deck hard and got some seam movement and bounce on occasions. We have seen some jaffas from them and Shami has used the bouncer intelligently. This is good to see, especially because bowling on unhelpful pitches was an issue for our pacers even 14 months back. kubrickian
Hardik was not bowled enough. He seems to have a plan when he is bowling and thinking of setting up the batsman up and has taken a wicket whenever he is brought on to bowl. Good signs of him as a test bowler but needs to be backed more by Kohli. RAZPOR 1 Link to comment
