TBH the Indian Fast bowling support system can get the worst out of any promising pacer!! Find any promising pacer in India and once the system gets his hands on him the most likely outcomes are: Reduces his natural pace and there is no effort to be quicker, the art is to trundle along harmless. That is cause no harm to ones own body and the opposition's batting line up Be injured forever, injured after coming back from injury, get injured before the match, during the match, after the match Bowl brainless with complete loss of any plan or strategy As much as Ishanth can be blamed for his underachievement, his issues were always hitting the wrong length and poor release. Something or someone fettled with what he was doing naturally and successfully early on in his career. That first spell from him bought sanity to today's proceedings, when Aaron was being carted at more than 10 an over and Shami was ineffective bowling full. Also, Shami needs to stick to his natural length which made him very effective in his last spell.

Bad form? How can you dismiss someone having an average of 37 after 50 test matches to be just going through bad form? He was a poor bowler up till the NZ tour and should have been dropped. Just because he's a slightly improved bowler now doesn't mean that keeping a nonperforming bowler in the team is vindicated.
Actually till England tour 2011, Ishant had an average of about 31. Broad was same too. While Broad maintained and only got better, he regressed since that tour. But since NZ tour, he has bowled decently. Though he is still far from anything great.

The thing is he has had a consistent run and prior to the faulkner assault on those god awful pitches,he was having a great ODI run as well......I hope Ishant is more proactive like Zak or Srinath in his later stages to guide his fellow bowlers....this was the biggest complain about Kapil and the early incarnation of Srinath as a spearhead when they never took the initiative.

The worst thing for Ishant is ... Even though he was the best of our specialist bowlers' date=' he currently has the worst average in the match. This is where averages can be misleading.[/quote'] Ishant was economical, but still never looked like taking a wicket. Aaron bowled more deliveries that troubled the batsmen but so many poor ones over-shadowed them. Wont look much into today's game because they were just throwing their bat at everything with field up.

Generally speaking he looked closer to getting a wicket than any other Indian bowler. Most of the other wickets were just out of the blue bad shots from the batsmen, with the exception of Shami picking up Haddin late on Day 1

No, I said more deliveries that troubled batsmen that is why he has more wickets too. Could have had Clarke early too if we had a slip when his edge went through 3rd slip. All our bowlers were poor including Ishant. Economy of over 3 looks good only when you look at others. I did not see anything great in his bowling too.

The Mitchell Marsh one was a good ball though. Just compare Ishant's opening spell with Varun Aaron's opening spell. I think you severely underestimate the value of holding down one end. One of the main reasons that Johnson was so effective last year was Ryan Harris was so consistent at the other end. I am in no way comparing Ishant to Ryan Harris but there is most definitely value in having someone do what Ishant did yesterday. In fact, if Shami bowled with Ishant's accuracy in his opening spell (and bowled over the wicket), he might have picked up a couple of early wickets because he was definitely swinging the ball.
