Cricket looses the Mighty Astle

Re: Cricket looses the Mighty Astle Sad to see him go just before the world cup. Now the last man standing from similar era is Stephen Fleming. Once Fleming's gone that will complete one era in NZ cricket. A top class batter, Astle, inspired a lot of ODI wins and few test wins. His average is very much underrated given the conditions he batted mostly in. If he were to play for any other country his average in both forms would have well been over 45. Batting mostly on NZ tracks means lesser average and anyone over 35 is a top bat. One of the batter batters behind square and a typical half arm jab pull shots. I would have wished to see him play in the World cup but looks like he has lost motivation playing cricket at this level. Good on him for giving up at the right time and waiting till getting dropped. :wtg:

Re: Cricket looses the Mighty Astle Yeah Vettori is from similar era although he started to picture in the team more often towards the end of last century. Vettori is still young enough to carry on for few years and I reckon another era starts right after the world cup when Fleming will be gone. McMillan started to play quite regularly from 99 and has been in and out of the team for a while so hard to consider him as an impact player from that era.
