Raina's belly v Mishra's belly

Recommended Posts

"not looking fit"? WTF that means? He's the most agile of all Indians on the field. Funny how people judge based on random things perceived from TV. Performances count, appearances don't. Sachin was stocky and short throughout his career. But he was probably one of the best outfielders we had in that time. Continued to remain so even into his 40s, with a strong and accurate arm.

There is a concept called being 'functionally fit'. There are people who might outwardly stocky, fat, but are among the most fit group when it comes to actual performance. Look at Watson - the guy looks like a body builder but is so fragile that CA has its fingers crossed every time he steps into the field. What's then the use of having an outwardly "fit" body? Let's not buy into the western concept of fitness and stuff. While am not advocating for Romesh Pawar type guys, it's quite stupid to ignore actual performances while assessing fitness.

"Raina, who last played a competitive limited-overs fixture in May, spent quite a bit of time as acting captain in the morning after Rahane was off the field. He walked out to bat appearing chubbier than his usual self"

I rather have an Inzi in my team than a toned Salil Ankola

Raina IMO is our 2nd best LOI player after Kohli. People give Dhoni the credit for the success of CSK, but it was Raina who kept winning them matches season after season. Only season they separated was 2016, and we all know what happened to Captain Cools Pune Warrior team.

As his belly increased, his effectiveness has decreased, you can see that clearly

Except for Raina and Mishra , most other players seem to have been working very hard on their fitness since Kohli became Test captain. Guys like Rahul and Yuvi are looking more chiseled than they did 6-12 months ago. Even Ashwin, who isn't the most naturally athletic guy, is visibly  better shaped than before.

Mishra is a lost cause belly wise, but really disappointed in Raina

Why would bcci call them for the fitness test and fail them on purpose?

It would be easier to not call them and call others instead .

Just let them continue to play domestic cricket only.

Looks like bcci wants to keep them in the scheme of things and want to try them in the A team to see their form and fitness.Raina should have worked harder to be fit.

At this level if you cannot control weight you have no business being in team.

Still understandable in regds to mishra as he was never naturally fit also has been playing from a generation when they werent much into fitness

Raina has no excuse , the guy was one of the fittest around the world
