G_B_
“Derbyshire had asked a few months ago whether I was interested in playing for them, but I said ‘no’ because I was hoping to play in the IPL,†said the 27-time Test player. “Sadly, I didn’t get picked in the IPL auction. "Luckily for me, there was an opportunity to play for Yorkshire. “I am thankful to the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) for allowing me to take part because if I didn’t get a county contract, I would have had no games to play in the immediate future. “My first priority is to do well for Yorkshire. I followed Yorkshire while I was playing for Derbyshire. They have set themselves a certain standard.†“I had average tours (of England and Australia),†he said. “But I feel I am learning every day. I can’t change my past, but I can try and build a good future. It was not that I wasn’t getting starts, I just couldn’t convert those runs into big scores. I have always believed in hard work. I am like a child who is not talented, but I know I can excel through hard work. I hope this county stint will be a memorable one. “County cricket teaches you so many things. “Adapting to the conditions will be the key. The ball will move a lot, and it will be cold. I won’t be getting any easy deliveries. If I do well, it will be a much-needed confidence boost.†http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/sport/cricket/yorkshire/12874475._/ Link to comment

vvvslaxman
See? Playing taste kirkut gets you nowhere near where you can be if you're a useless pathan or a raina It fills their pockets. Ishant made 950k for each first three seasons. He hardly made any contribution. So did Maxwell first season with MI. He made a million buck without playing a match. I am not sure what cricket fans derive out of it. Most fans care for players who represent India not clubs. Link to comment

fineleg
Best possible thing for Che - that sh.tty IPL didnt pick him. Good luck @Yorkshire. I wish Umesh Yadav, Varun, Kohli, Rahane all can play county rather than Thoothukudi circus. Link to comment

Clarke
though must hurt not have any bids from any IPL teams I remember Badrinath in similar situation, but Pujara an established Test player in his prime playing age being rejected by IPL is a strong signal as any to future cricketers in India that being a Test specialist is not the way forward. See? Playing taste kirkut gets you nowhere near where you can be if you're a useless pathan or a raina Except if you're a really good modern day test player (which Pujara isn't thus far, check his recent record) you adapt to at least one dayers and can carve out your legacy. Case in point Dravid, he began as a solid test player and adapted to limited overs quite well, made much more money overall and has a massive fan following bigger than pathan & raina combined. You can argue about Laxman maybe, even he isn't doing badly at all. He has options in commentary, television shows, local/national board etc and must have had good amount of endorsements in his prime. Link to comment

Sooda
Sorry to say but time is running out fast for Pujara. Vijay and Rahane have taken their game to a different level' date=' Kohli is much better and can still improve. Tough competition between him and Rohit Sharma.[/quote'] Add Lokesh into the mix for no 3 slot. Very likely that Dhawan will be back opening next test match. I hope Pujara can play at 5 but it is between him and Rohit Link to comment

YCCC
When is the first match? Starts tomorrow away to Worcestershire, just promoted from Div 2. Normally I'd expect us to win easily but with half our regular squad missing and Chets having only been here three days, can only speculate as to how it's going to go. Hopefully our attack will be able to bail us out if we get into a tight spot with the bat. COME ON YORKSHIRE!!! Link to comment

YCCC
How difficult is it to find online streams for these county games? Don't even waste your day trying! Sky show two four day county games a year but apart from that they're very low key affairs Link to comment

Probably got too many priorities mixed, I remember a news article last year where in an interview Pujara said he is looking to improving his bowling to give him the edge in ODI selection and I thought  and kindna since then one gets the feeling he wants to be in the ODI team rather Test team. my opinion there are different ways players can become ODI players, and one way is to improve your Test game and sheer weight of runs will take you into the ODI team....e.g. Trott, Amla, Dravid, Samaraweera, Cook etc.. G_B_
Dravid played in a different era. Even the likes of Vijay and Rahane have not exactly set the world alight in the limited overs arena. Tells me that crossing between formats can be done only by the best of batters. India should aim to seperate their test and LOI teams. Rahul Vijay Rahane Pujara as test specialists. Kohli for both. Dhawan and Rohit IMO should just stick to the Limited overs. Keep Saha for the tests while somebody else plays in the ODIs/T20s like a Uttappa or a Samson. Ditto the bowlers. Lets make Ishant a test specialist (if at all) etc. In total india must aim for 7-8 test specialists Link to comment
