AH-1Z Viper, 1000 Hellfire Missiles approved for sale to Pakistan bell-ah-1z-viper-jpg.212609

The State Department has approved Pakistan’s request to buy almost $1 billion in U.S.-made attack helicopters, missiles and other equipment aimed at fighting insurgents in the country’s mountainous north and west regions. U.S. defense companies are engaged in a three-way tussle with Russia and China to sell weapons to Pakistan, complicated by the need to avoid upsetting neighbor India and its even larger arms’ import market. The Pentagon said Monday that Pakistan had requested 15 AH-1Z Viper helicopters made by the Bell arm of Textron Inc., as well as 1,000 Hellfire missiles produced by Lockheed Martin Corp. and a host of other communications and training equipment with a total value of $952 million, according to a notification to Congress, which needs to approve any sale. Any deal would be structured as a foreign military sale between the two governments. “This proposed sale of helicopters and weapon systems will provide Pakistan with military capabilities in support of its counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations in South Asia,” said the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, which oversees U.S. military exports.

India to buy 36 Rafale jets in fly-away conditions from France 3b57e85b-198c-45ad-9120-2e8ce0d429ce.jpgFjh9zz.jpgarmes-gbu-rafale-en-vol.jpg

NEW DELHI: In a potential deal that will give a boost to the country's defence capabilities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced that India is looking to buy thirty six Rafale jets in fly-away conditions from France as soon as possible. The deal with Dassault Aviation has been stuck on cost and gurantee clause. The original Rafale contract was worth $12 billion but was widely estimated to have increased to $20 billion, primarily because of the implications of building some of the jets in India.

I dont get this 36 number. Its one and half squad. There was a 63 add on possible on top of existing mmrca, this is not it. 80 odd are required to replace mig 27 this is not it, if there is going to be 90 odd followup then mmrca saga continues. MOD during UPA is probably the worst organised body in the history of organizations in live sentient part of universe.

We should cancel the rafale deal. 1rafale jet cost is around 110 US $ millions. Operational cost is also very high, we should built more SU-30 MKI, it costs around 53 millions us$. Also we will not face much problem with spare parts and operational cost

These are estimated radar cross sections of various flying configurations..Rafale has a full config rcs of 1m2 while that of mki is around 4 or allegedly even more. Tejas is around 1.5 for comparison. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/stealth-aircraft-rcs.htm MKI is a large fighter with very big radar but also big rcs, rafale is omnirole platform with very high range and payload( almost 1.6 times that of MKI) rafale has more hardpoints, besides rafale is far more survivable than MKI, super su mki is a different ball game but as of now Rafale is an important addition to IAF as long as Tejas Mk2 and AMCA do not materialize. Basically fighters are needed to do BVR(beyond visual range) and WVR(within vis range - Dog fight) combat, fighters like f 15 and Su 27/Su30 MKI are invincible in WVR literally, they will eat every other fighter including f 22 in WVR but in BVR is where the new fighters will get them. An airforce without BVR ability will give air superiority to an airforce with BVR immediately, example Kargil war, PAF f 16 did not attempt to face a sole Indian Mig 29, Indian Mig got a lock on a couple of paf f 16 still within pak air space who had to evade leaving the infantry on ground who were getting pounded by Mirages...no f 16 could fly in for any CAS duty...but now PAF have BVR in their f 16's..so India needs stealth to do the same game now...
