gattaca
Lion will always be England. Thats what the whole world thinks. either you need to have a connection with that animal, like "physically having it in your country" or have a history of such behavior USA - eagle (bird present in their country) /uncle sam (army) India - tiger (animal present)/ elephant (huge but lethargic economy) China - dragon (mythological connection), (powerful and fast moving economy) Russia - Bear (animal present), (hibernating economy) England - Lion (they were the king of the jungle pre-WWII, greatest empire ever) Bangladesh - Tiger (animal present) on what basis do Srilankans have the lion as a symbol? they neither had it nor ever behaved like that. its is a joke.. Srilankas got loins.:giggle:. may be it should be their national symbols.

KeyboardWarrior
Much better than This is not an Ordinary Goat .... The colloquial name is thought by some to be derived from the Persian word "mar", meaning snake, and "khor", meaning "eater", which is sometimes interpreted to either represent the species' ability to kill snakes. The markhor has the ability to kill a snake and eat it. Markhor is the National Animal of Pakistan .... and also, the SNAKE EATER .... BTW, Pakistan State Animal is Snow Leopard .... Beautiful Animal ....

Muloghonto
In a match-up between a tiger and a Lion' date=' tiger should come-up on top.[/quote'] Its not that simple. A tiger is bigger and more powerful than a lion and its also heck of a lot stealthier. But a lion, especially a male lion, has a neck protection ( its thick mane) and it tends to sit up on its hind legs and swat with its paws, something that gives it a fighting advantage over a tiger- IF it doesn't straight up get ambushed by a tiger in the first place that is. In the circuses of Ancient Rome, exotic beasts were commonly pitted against each other. The contest of the lion against the tiger was a classic pairing and the betting usually favoured the tiger.[4][5] A mosaic in the House of the Faun in Pompeii shows a fight between a lion and a tiger.[6] Titus, the Roman Emperor, had Bengal tigers compelled to fight the African lions, and the tigers always beat the lions.[7] A tiger that belonged to the King of Oude killed thirty lions, and destroyed another after being transferred to the zoological garden in London.[8] A British officer who resided many years at Sierra Leone saw many lion and tiger fights, and the tiger usually won.[9] At the end of the 19th century, the Gaekwad of Baroda arranged a fair fight between a Barbary lion and a Bengal tiger before an audience of thousands as the Asiatic lions were no match for the Bengal tigers. The Gaekwad favoured the lion, and as a result had to pay 37,000 rupees as the lion was mauled by the tiger.[2][10] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiger_versus_lion
