Dhondy
Pakistani fans would forever look back on 61 for 4 in the first innings of the decider and wonder what could have been. They had India by the balls- make no mistake. Jaffer-Gambhir-Dravid-Laxman all gone. Tendulkar and Dhoni not playing. Shoaib steaming in at Ganguly, whose weakness against pace was common knowledge. Surely salvation awaited the Pakistani supporters at last? You could see the drooling begin in anticipation. Yet again, the moth eaten red carpet on the cobblestones of Islamabad beckoned for the all conquering superstars. A series draw against great odds. Maybe President Musharraf could hold on to his job in the general atmosphere of euphoria, after all? 2005 revisited? Not this time, mian. That partnership between Ganguly and Yuvraj changed everything. Three hundred delicious runs, scored at a frenetic pace, sucking the happiness out of Pakistani supporters like dementors. The ghosts of Karachi exorcised at last. Link to comment
Bumper
This Pak team was too weak mentally & physically to pounce up on such opportunities. There were brief moments in Kotla too when we were reduced to 93/5, when a veteran and a youngster came together to pull India out of trouble. Says something about our young guns, dont it ? Dhoni & Yuvraj play very well under pressure, esp when the opponents are Pakistan. Link to comment
bharat297
Agreed. The Ganguly-Yuvraj partnership was the highlight of the series. However, funniest moment of the series for me was when Tanvir started bowling left arm orthodox. I nearly fell out Link to comment

In that first Test, Pakistan were 71 for no loss and 114 for 1 in the 2nd innings, having swiftly wiped out India's 45 run lead. As usual, it was Kumble who turned the tide. Pakistan crashed to 247 all out, and the match was practically over. Link to comment

But he is one constant force in the Indian team, who delivers series after series (touch wood). This is not such a great series by Kumble's standards. Yet he ended up as India's highest wicket taker. And he does all this by silently going about his task. Compare him with Shoaib Akhtar. Half the no. of wickets, ten times more antics, fitness issues, attitude problems with some bollywood stunts (showing faces to Dravid, Laxman) mixed in. No wonder Pakistan underachieves with him in the ranks. How well did they play without him, back in 2005 ? Link to comment

What half number of wickets? see half the number means 277 wickets for Akhtar:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:.even with his hyperextension and double joints he hasn't reached 200 wickets yet . Don't compare with that show pony with our legend . Link to comment

poori_meri
Moment of series was when 2 most calm & experienced players from either team were fighting like kids. Yousuf & Kumble Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
A fine moment, but I think you overhype it too much. Karachi was truly gutting. A team being ripped apart at its fortress within the first hour of play. 6 wickets, rarely seen in tests in that little time, a hattrick and the pacemen on fire. Thoughts abounding of a resounding defeat that would go down in the history books for a long, long time. Instead it turned to humilation. A comeback from 61/4 against a fairly rubbish attack isn't going to come near exorcising those memories, especially when it ended up in a drawn game as well thanks to Misbah, Akmal and Harbhajan's efforts. Ram
Yousuf's wicket in the 2nd innings at Delhi was huge. Fall of wickets1-71 (Yasir Hameed, 25.1 ov), 2-114 (Younis Khan, 38.4 ov), 3-149 (Mohammad Yousuf, 45.1 ov), 4-155 (Salman Butt, 48.6 ov), 5-161 (Shoaib Malik, 53.2 ov), 6-213 (Kamran Akmal, 66.4 ov), 7-229 (Sohail Tanvir, 72.4 ov), 8-243 (Misbah-ul-Haq, 82.4 ov), 9-247 (Mohammad Sami, 82.6 ov), 10-247 (Danish Kaneria, 83.1 ov) This turned it, for me. Pakistan lost its last 8 wickets for 98 runs. Once Pak lost the first test, they were always playing catch-up cricket since then. Link to comment
