IPL spot-fixing: Charges dropped against Sreesanth, Chandila and Chavan

Recommended Posts

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court today dropped all charges against cricketers S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan in the IPL 6 spot-fixing scandal. The verdict is looked upon as a major setback for the Delhi police who probed the scandal. Also among the 42 accused in a 6000-page long chargesheet filed by the Delhi Police Special Cell, were underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his aide Chhota Shakeel. While the players, arrested by the Delhi Police in May 2013, were granted bails due to lack of evidence, the court had issued non-bailable warrants against Dawood and Shakeel. The infamous IPL controversy broke out during the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League, during which Rajasthan Royals cricketers Sreesanth, Chandila and Chavan were accused of tarnishing the image of the game. The Delhi Police, on May 16, 2013, arrested the three cricketers along with Sreesanth's friend and alleged booking Jiju Janardhan and 10 other bookies. While framing charges against them, the police had referred to telephonic conversations among the accused to support their claims. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/ipl-2015/news/IPL-spot-fixing-Charges-dropped-against-Sreesanth-Chandila-and-Chavan/articleshow/48215684.cms?
