Sad situation in Ind. Would not recommend anyone who does not have a family in Ind to tour Ind

The issue is exacerbated by a number of factors including overpopulation, unfavorable sex ratio, low ethical standards, lack of self pride (one should be proud enough to not take advantage of a helpless person), easy availability of x-rated content on internet fueling desire, words like rape being used freely and jokingly in Ind, law and order issues, etc.

extreme objectification of women as if its a celebrated trait, porn has an element of secrecy and  social taboo in it, Indian mainstream movies have taken objectification to a socially acceptable at times celebrated level.

Nothing new.

This has been happening for ever. These days people report to the police. The more these things get reported and people caught ...the better it is. Atleast now they will fear that the woman and her family will not just hide tje incidence in 'shame'.

Who know if these people would have approached the police if the poor child had not been killed.

What is shocking is that these are young guys with no criminal history.

They think any woman out in the night is fair game for rape .Any women in a lonely spot is rapable .That seems to be the thinking of a large number of men.

Also the belief that she probably will just stay quiet and hence nothing will happen to them.

I dont understand if some people from India are downright stupid to talk like this or they are doing it to get a reaction. Is this a result of our poor education system that people have no logic or rationality in their thought ?

You think America is a safe utopia where no crimes happen ? Lots of Indians have been killed there recently because of the color of their skin. More rapes are committed in US, UK than India despite India's large population. Obviously, we have a crime problem but if you think nobody should visit India because of crimes committed by some people, you cant visit any country in the world.

Media is like a paparazzi for even the common man these days and all these gruesome stories are rightfully highlighted but I shudder to think what the situation must have been in the 80s and 90s

that is what I wonder. was it this bad when i grew up in India?

If you had used logic, you would not have banked on fallacies in your post

No one has claimed that xyz or whatever country  has zero crimes. Where ever there are humans, there will be crimes. Saying that crime is everywhere is not the solution and probably displays hints of the infamous "chalta hai" attitude in Ind

Ind is turning in to a dangerous place for women, who get raped and murderdered. A place where just taking a cab or asking for a ride has landed women in trouble

Let's not present stats as if everything in Ind gets reported relatively speaking. To solve a problem, the first step is to acknowlede it. While people in Ind may not realise it, from the outside it does appear scary

at times i feel prostitution should be legalized in India all this trouble will go away, and prostitutes will also get rights and wages/health care etc. But i guess all aunties will be up in arms and will never let it happen.

i wonder if you ever managed to see a bhojpuri movie song, you will quickly understand the ethos of the belt we are hearing all this from. it is the epitome in objectification of women in Indian cinema absolute gutter trash.

It can be legalized but with regulations that prevents exploitation of women. A solution to one problem should not potentially serve as a problem. All angles should be explored and safeguards put in place

The thing is how a society is progressing cannot be judged based upon how well the already englightened and blessed people are doing, it's focusing on the masses and the people who need to be doing better are doing.

If the rate of rapes lets say doubles and India launches 4 more missions to the Moon -  Would you call it progress ?

If the suicide rate of the farmers increases and India's GDP increased by 1%  ,  Is that progress ?

I find equality and the difference between the masses as the best indicator to assess progress -  A country where everyone can afford to eat a proper meal and has access to necessities is better progressing than a country where improvement in GDP and access to Foreign cars , bigger malls are used as a benchmark of success.
