'Pace is our main weapon' - Steyn

Its great to see young fast bowling talent like Rabada who is encouraged to bowl quick. While we keep selecting trundlers and criticize bowlers like Bhuvi who try to improve their game by trying to increase their pace and openly criticizing fast bowlers like Umesh/Aaron. No wonder we are not producing good fast bowlers.

"The major thing about our quick bowlers is that all three bowl over 140," Dale Steyn said. "When the guys are steaming in and bowling quickly at 145 plus, pace on the ball makes it really tough especially in these conditions. As soon as it gets to the 25th-30th over where the ball gets really soft and the wicket starts to crumble a bit, it's really difficult to get the quicker bowlers away. Pace is the main weapon."

Our highest wicket taker in WC, Umesh has one bad game and is dropped straight away. Our fast bowlers don't get that long rope that our  batsman and trundlers enjoy.

Its great that he is looking to increase his pace even more. Great attitude that every fast bowler must have. SA have unearthed a gem here.

@rkt.india Have you seen Mfuneko Ngam bowl? He was really quick! Hitting 150K at the age of 22. But sadly he faded away after injury.

Younger guys like Kohli are far more pro fast bowlers. So is Shastri.

Hopefully, this will bring about a change in our fast bowling culture.

The difference between our test pace attack and ODI attack speaks volumes on this issue.

I remember Ngam. He was quick. So was Nantie Hayward. It is amazing how many genuine quicks South African keep on producing. Must be due to the fast bowling culture that is present there and the guidance and encouragement they get for bowling with a lot of effort.
