Tension prevailed on Wednesday in Perumbavoor, a satellite town of Kochi city, and surrounding areas following the sacrilegious act of slaughtering a pregnant cow inside the compound of the famous Sree Dharma Sastha temple there by three persons belonging to the Muslim community late Tuesday afternoon. Three taluks of Ernakulam district Muvattupuzha, Kunnathunadu and Kothamangalam observed a dawn-to-dusk shutdown on Wednesday as per a call given by Hindu organizations and Sangh Pariwar outfits to protest against the gruesome slaughter of the pregnant cow by slitting the throat. The shutdown affected normal life in all the three taluks. Incidents of mild stone-pelting were reported from some places. The police had on Tuesday itself taken three persons Muhammad (49), his son Anas (23) and Razid (18) into custody in connection with the cow-slaughter. One person managed to flee the scene. As per police reports, Perumbavoor and the surrounding areas have witnessed a rise in Islamist operations recently. The place is just 25 km away from Muvattupuzha, where activists of Islamist organization Popular Front of India had cut off the right hand of a college professor on July 4, 2010 alleging that he had blasphemed Prophet Muhammad through a test paper for students. The three men then put up a screen in the temple compound (to conceal the slaughter from the people) with plastic sheets brought from a nearby building and slit the throat of the cow after one of them, a Moulvi from a nearby village, said the prayers which was mandatory as per customs of the community. As news of the outrageous act spread, thousands of Hindus including activists of Sangh Pariwar outfits rushed to the temple and blocked the evil-doers from escaping. The arrival of some members of the Muslim community to justify the slaughter caused escalation in tension. One of those arrested was from among those who came to justify the act, said protestors. http://www.dailypioneer.com/state-editions/kochi/36090-cow-slaughtered-inside-kerala-temple-compound.html http://ibnlive.in.com/news/cow-slaughter-creates-tension-3-held/221885-60-122.html http://zeenews.india.com/news/kerala/cow-slaughter-creates-tension_753406.html

Honestly Can't believe Mallus are so patient
Yup..generally a very tolerant community, the christians, hindus and muslims are very accomodating of each other's feelings. There are mostly no radical 'ghetto' culture as I could see when I was in hyderabad with the muslims isolating themselves into certain areas of the city. Things seem to be changing in Kerala quite fast in this regard.. in a bad direction.

Moslems have been breeding like you know what and Kerala is now getting a sample of what is going to come in the Future...if Hindus have to stand up and defend themselves so be it

yes I agree.. although I can't cast all the muslims to have the same agenda..there does seem to be a rapidly growing crop who are intent on the whole "global caliphate" nonsense, regions of our country which has enjoyed friendly relations between all religeons is now slowly coming under the grips/influence of these groups. It is undeniable, even though it is a bitter pill to swallow...the disease needs to be cured, we need a hard-man like Modi at the helm

Similar kind of incident happened in 2002 in a small town located near to Jaipur. Hindus retaliated in a very ugly manner after that . Didn't get much reporting at national level though as there were not major riots. Few nutjobs causing problems to whole society.... Sad.....

no worries they will be well protected by Kangress ....Hindus are pu$ and have zero unity...expect more in coming years
'tolerant' is the best word.. some of our states are the most liberal ones you can find and comparable to Europe, any other state would have seen pig caracasses flying into Mosque compounds and atleast a couple of dozen skulls cracked to teach them about respecting other religeons.

To summarise.. this is what is happening 'Popular front of India' - the Islamic army within.. they are present in most states in the South now I think [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aifstIQcSY]POPULAR FRONT OF INDIA - YouTube[/ame] [ame=

Front of India Perumbavoor Rally 2011 - YouTube[/ame] On July 4, 2010, two PFI activists were arrested in conjunction with an incident in which they allegedly chopped the hand off of a Kerala professor who had allegedly offended the religious sentiments of his students.[60] At the time of the attack, Joseph was coming back from his duties at a private Christian college in Muvattapuzha and had been accused of blasphemy.[61][by whom?][62] The Kerala state police claimed to be "unearthing the vast network" of the PFI,[63] and after a series of raids on the houses of PFI members, the district secretary of the PFI "threatened the officer with dire consequences if he continued raiding the houses of its activists."[64] On July 9, 2010, it was reported that PFI installations were being raided by police, and that they had found propaganda videos from the global Islamic network al-Qaeda in the possession of one alleged PFI member, and a rifle, fake SIM cards, and fake identity cards in the possession of another member of the PFI.[61][2][65] As a result of the incident, the BJP has called for a ban on the PFI and an examinations of possible links between the PFI and the Taliban by the National Investigation Agency.[66] On September 6, 2010, the Kerala Government informed the state high court that investigators thus far found no evidence of a connection between the Popular Front of India with Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e Taiba (Let) or al-Qaeda.[67][68] In early 2010, the state government reported to the Karnataka High Court that although a large number of young Hindu women had converted to Islam, there was no organized attempt to convince them to do so.[73] In the summer of 2010, Kerala Chief Minister V. S. Achutanandan claimed the PFI has plans to Islamize Kerala over a 20-year-period by influencing "youth of other religions and converting them by giving money, marrying them to Muslim women and thus producing kids of the community.”[70] PFI state unit president Nasaruddeen Elamaram responded by claiming that the charges were baseless and that religious conversion is not a crime,[69] and BJP Mahila Morcha leader Sobha Surendran responded with doubts as to the chief minister's sincerity.[70]

@ Hari, These guys have been caught. According to the news article they've been charged with 153 A (inciting enmity between different sects/communities) and 120 ( criminal conspiracy). I guess this is in addition to the charge applicable in Kerala for unlicensed cow slaughter. IIRC, Kerala has one of the highest conviction rates in India and one the lowest # of backlog cases. If anything, justice should be swift, relatively speaking. I don't agree with your summary though. These guys are criminals, and with some truly messed-up sense of superiority and morality, if they think that they were right/justified in doing what they did. No where is it mentioned that these guys acted at the behest of the PFI or any political party. How are you making the connect?
