Indian batting against Spinners

Indian batters used to give sleepless nights for opposition spinners. We knew, no matter how susceptible the team might seem to pacers, we will take the spinners to the cleaners. 

These days, the Indian batters look as vulnerable as any team against quality spin esp off spin. This is worrying sign. I don't see this Indian team setting the world on fire abroad. But if can't play spin, then even the spinning tracks might be difficult to deal with.

Not just against "quality spin". Even against ordinary spinners, in last some years, the Indian top order has struggled.

Yeah finey they need to play like SAF did yesterday. After all after marking your words, SAF won the match right? You must be devastated. Did you get good sleep last night?

But finey is right. The batters would take the ordinary bowlers of SA out of the attack immidiately. Now you see an offspinner, you know bat pad catch is on.

The established stars have played most tests, in the last 2 years , out of the sub-continent ( apart from the SL series ).

The 2 batsmen who have played well for us, Vijay and Pujara , have played FC much more because they are not in the LOI teams.

Even our FC matches are not played on spinning tracks these days  (most of us wanted sporting tracks but get green tops ).

The pad-up rule has changed.

All this is resulting in our  top test batsmen not being as effective, as previously, on turning tracks.

As we play more tests in our country, this may improve. It is also a matter of mind-set...playing on turning tracks.

As far as I know, previously, batsmen could place their bats behind their pads and pad-up  It would be given not out because the ball would have hit the bat even if the pad were not in line ..and batsmen used this technique a lot The West Indian batsman Jimmy Adams got the nickname of "Paddams " because he survived this way for a whole India tour.

Now, if this technique is used...the umpire will consider whether there has been a genuine attempt to play the ball. If it is happening often and the umpire feels that the batsman made no genuine attempt to play the ball....then he will give it out if... the ball will go on to hit the stump...even if the ball has pitched outside off-stump and the bat is behind the pad.

They are playing too much cricket these days. That would indirectly affect one's performance. India should adapt rotation policy or pick players based on the conditions. There's no need to play hacks like Dhawan, Rohith, when playing in overseas conditions. Same should be followed for bowlers too.

Feet movement has regressed against spinners.Kohli i have no idea. He picked Mendis and Ajmal from the hand like nobody's business even better than Tendu, Laxman. Rahane is somewhat a different Indian player who doesn't use his wrists much. Against spinners you ought to be able to make late adjustment. Having said that on a turning track even our seniors have at times failed. Peter such in Mumbai for example.

I doubt that older Indian players used pads much. They were good at handling turn as they played late and used wrists. Current lot is not good at that.

It's a lack of technique and loss of concentration by even established batsmen because they are not getting to the pitch of the ball or they are going back when they should be going forward.this was not a problem for laxman or dravid etc.these guys are not that good.

These stats ( from tests played IN VARIOUS COUNTRIES ) show that SO FAR in test matches

Kohli -- He is very very good on bouncy tracks, bad when the ball is swinging  and OK on turning tracks.

Rahane -- He is very good on bouncy tracks, OK against swing and bad on spinning tracks.

Vijay -- Is good on bouncy tracks, OK against swing and good on turning tracks.

Pujara -- He is OK on bouncy tracks, bad against swing and very good on spinning tracks.

Dhawan -- He is bad on bouncy pitches, inconsistent against swing ( maybe ok and maybe bad ) and good on turning tracks.

Rohit -- He is bad on bouncy tracks, inconsistent to bad against swing and good on turning tracks.
