India’s limited overs skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was named captain of Rising Pune Supergiants, owned by Sanjiv Goenka, for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League in Kolkata on Monday.

Unveiling the team logo and captain, team owner Sanjiv Goenka said, “I welcome Dhoni as the captain of Rising Pune Supergiants for the 2016 season.

“He has always been a phenomenal leader for teams that he has represented including the Indian side. His track record in both domestic and International arenas have been remarkable. I firmly believe he will lead our team extremely well on and off the field.”

Asked why Dhoni was named captain only for one season, he said: “Right now the focus is only on 2016 and the team building. That’s why we named Dhoni as the captain.”

Dhoni will lead a star-studded side that will have Aussie skipper Steve Smith, South African skipper Faf du Plessis beside the Indian experienced duo of Ajinkya Rahane and R Ashwin, but Goenka said too many leaders won’t call for a “friction”.

“Practically we hope there will be complete harmony in the team. The likes of MS, Steve Smith and Faf du Plessis are seasoned leaders. I don’t think there will be any chance of a friction in the team,” he said.

Asked whether Australia’s Michael Hussey, another former Chennai Super Kings staff, will also be on board, the chairman of RP Sanjiv Goenka Group said: “This is not CSK. Just because someone was in CSK won’t mean that he will be here as well.”

“Just because we are a new team we don’t want to put out an excuse that’s we could not do this or that. We have to do what have to and we are confident of doing well.”

Goenka also reiterated that former India captain and his co-owner at ISL football franchise Atletico de Kolkata, Sourav Ganguly has no role in the team.

“Sourav has no involvement in the team. It’s for the Ombdusman to decide, why asking me,” he said on the reported Conflict of interest scanner on Ganguly.

In another announcement, Raghu Iyer was named CEO for the RP-Sanjiv Goenka group’s sports vertical.

“(Raghu) Iyer, previously, with Rajasthan Royals, will be joining as the CEO of the sports vertical of the group,” Goenka said.

Interestingly, the team is abbreviated as RPSG, the same as their RP Sanjiv Goenka Group.

South Africa allrounder Albie Morkel and Jharkhand batsman Saurabh Tiwary will play for the Rising Pune Supergiants in the IPL 2016. The pair had played for the Delhi Daredevils franchise in IPL 2015.

Morkel, who missed out on South Africa's World T20 squad, was purchased by Delhi Daredevils in the IPL 2015 auction for Rs 30 lakh. The allrounder played only four matches for the franchise in the season, scoring 86 runs and taking three wickets. Morkel was a part of the Chennai Super Kings franchise between 2008 and 2013, before being bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 2.4 crore (approx $400,000) in 2014. In September last year, he was recalled to the South Africa's T20 squad after 18 months, but played only one match of the series against India, in Cuttack.

Tiwary, who has played for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers in previous seasons, was bought by Daredevils in the IPL 2014 auction for Rs 70 lakhs. He was sidelined from IPL 2014 due to a shoulder injury and played seven matches in IPL 2015, scoring 109 runs. The Jharkhand batsman's best season in the IPL came in 2010, when he scored 419 runs in 16 matches, including three fifties, for Mumbai Indians, who were finalists in that season. He had middling seasons with the bat for Royal Challengers after he was purchased for $1.6 million in the 2011 auction, scoring 487 runs in 40 matches in three seasons between 2011 and 2013. Tiwary played the last of his three ODIs for India in December 2010.

Dinda, chahar,Mitch Marsh,Pathan,Bhatia,Perera and RP Singh......looks like a trundler convention :hysterical:

Dream pace resources for MSD :giggle:

He personally would have asked for this..just wanted a good reason to play 5 front-line spinners in the team.:giggle:

Now 1) If this Bowling attack clicks--->Dhoni the mastermind.Perfectly knows what players to pick.

2) If this doesn't click-----> Dhoni had a poor bowling line up.Not is fault.
