According to friends and officials, the five ASA members got into trouble in the first week of August 2015, when they protested against the hanging of Mumbai-blasts accused Yakub Memon and condemned the ABVP attack on the screening of the documentary ‘Muzaffarnagar Baaqi Hai’ in Delhi University.

On August 3, the ASA held a demonstration at the Hyderabad campus. But then, the ABVP’s university unit president Kumar posted a comment on Facebook, calling the ASA members “goons”.

“When we confronted Susheel in his hostel room, he tendered a written apology in the presence of the university’s security officer. But the next day he got himself admitted in a hospital and alleged that members of ASA had manhandled him. The university ordered an inquiry while ABVP lodged a police complaint,’’ said an ASA member, speaking on condition of anonymity.

When contacted, Kumar maintained that he was “roughed up by around 40 ASA members who barged into my room”.

Why should ASA worry about a terrorist's hanging? I think there is some hand of AIMIM Owaisi's in this protest. That lead to ABVP clash and some politics behind the action on the  ASA students. Poor guy committed suicide and then the all politicians are into it, wants a piece of action. RaGa and Diggy in Hyderabad and the whole MSM with their mics are behind them. Meanwhile this nutcase is after Modi...Facking idiot:

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday reacted to the death of Dalit PhD student Rohith Vemula, terming it a ‘murder of democracy’ for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologise.

“Modi government is constitutionally duty bound to uplift Dalits. Instead Modiji’s ministers got five Dalit students ostracised and suspended,” Kejriwal tweeted this morning.

In another tweet, Kejriwal said: “It’s not suicide. It’s murder. It’s murder of democracy, social justice and equality. Modi ji should sack ministers and apologize to the nation.”

Example for how this issue is used to propagate hate-mongering by certain section of people....

BJP's Hindutva politics killed Rohith Vemula

Hindutva brand of politics that has virtually justified the relegation of Dalits as "untouchables", "second class citizens" even as it has painted a saffron target of xenophobia on the backs of minorities, particularly Muslims.

virtually justified the existence of the caste system in his book "Bunch Of Thoughts" that also labelled Indian Muslims and Christians as "internal threats"

Just seeing the debate what a moron the BJP minister is.

First the university inquiry commission finds the ASA students innocent. But after that the union minister Bandaru Dattatreya writes Smith Irani asking to take action on the students and Irani writes 5 letters to take action.

Suddenly the inquiry committee finds the same students guilt solely based on what Sushil's mother said .Seriously?

And the minister writes in the same letter that ASA is a Casteist party against Hindus and Hyderabad university has become the house of these casteism .So if u fight for Dalit rights u are casteist organisation.

First IIT Chennai and now this .

Today's editorial in Hindu :

The suicide of Rohith Vemula, a Dalit research scholar at the University of Hyderabad, is yet another tragic testimony to the feudal passions of caste that roil India’s institutions of higher education, which are known to harbour delusions of being meritocracies. Vemula was one of five Dalit students, all belonging to the Ambedkar Students Association (ASA), who had been suspended by the administration. The ‘suspension’ order allowed them to continue their studies in the university but denied them entry to the hostels, administration building and other common places in groups. It is difficult to imagine a more blatant exhibition of social boycott than such a punitive measure, directed at a group of students from a socially disadvantaged community. That this comes from the governing elite of a central university makes it even more appalling. The ostensible reason for the suspension of Vemula and the four others was an alleged clash between students belonging to the ASA and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), an affiliate of the right-wing Sangh Parivar. An inquiry by the university culminated in the suspension order. It was against this punitive measure that they had been protesting. On Sunday, the young scholar decided to cut short both his protest and his life. His suicide note, which was posted on social media, states categorically that no one is responsible for his act, a statement that should not be taken at face value.

The police have registered cases against Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya, the University of Hyderabad Vice-Chancellor P. Appa Rao, and two ABVP activists on charges of abetment to suicide, and violation of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Activists say the circumstances leading to Vemula’s death were sparked by a letter from Mr. Dattatreya to Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani, charging the ASA with being “extremist” and “anti-national”. Trying to make sense of a death by suicide is an onerous, and frequently futile, exercise. But Vemula’s death demands it, not least because it is a national shaming. It brings the Indian state face to face with its utter failure in addressing the social evil of caste and casteist discrimination. The Thorat Committee, constituted some years ago to investigate differential treatment of SC/ST students in just one institution, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, had come out with a damning indictment of the way Dalit students were treated. Forced into ghettoes in the hostel, discriminated against by teachers, denied access to sporting and cultural activities, SC/ST students in India’s premier educational institutions walk into an environment that’s virulently hostile to them. Not surprisingly, according to one estimate, in the last four years 18 Dalit students chose to end their lives rather than continue to battle on in these dens of caste prejudice and social exclusion. The first step toward treating the rot of caste is to acknowledge it — after Vemula’s tragic death, it would be a crime not to.

BJP needs to put its house in order... I don't see them ruling for long time...

Instead of allowing this issue to snowball, they should immediately appoint CBI to investigate the matter, and take some action against the VC.

This will definitely screw up the Budget session and also the UP elections in which BJP was focussing on Dalit votes..

That Irani lady is incompetent and should be removed from HRD ministry.

Actually MODI needs to effing take stock and get a grip. Cabinet reshuffle is needed. Kick out this plethora of Bihar ministers. not sure how many days Jaitly will survive as FM...

What has happened to this Modi guy? He's transformed into a Pitamah sort of role, having nothing to do with any thing and live in his own World... He's become very soft and not using CBI effectively...

Who gave ASA right to protest in favor of getting memorial to Yakub Memon?

I am posting what was said in the debate by a Tamil student studying Hyderabad university student in the Pudiya Thalaimurai (Tamil news channel ) .The BJP spokes person didn't deny it outright either .U could see it in their website (the debate) if u know Tamil .

Will check and post any links if they corroborate it .

Because we are in a democracy.Anyone one post any poster it isn't violence .

If ABVP find the posters anti - national complain it to the police and charge them .

What stopped them doing it?

And why do they tried to spot the documentary instead of complaining to the University?

One of them in the debate I was watching mentioned BJP have appointed CEO type people as vice Chancellors instead qualified scholars .

So they don't know how to handle these student protests and instead treat them like private employees suspending and snowballing these issues .Instead of talking solutions .

Wonder how much of that is accurate. This isn't the first time these sort of issues have happened either

@bulbul

I know this is Dig Vijay Singh , but his comments also corroborate what the Hyderabad student said .And as far as I know no one from BJP has denied this events either .

Attacking the BJP-led government over the alleged suicide of a dalit scholar in Hyderabad, Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Tuesday charged that vice chancellors have been handpicked by the BJP-RSS and asked student wings to come together to fight the "communal forces".

"This is only a beginning. Vice-Chancellors have been handpicked by BJP-RSS. They would be interested to promote ABVP rather than Academics. All Student Wings must come together to fight communal forces on the Campus", the party general secretary said in a series of tweets.

He alleged that the suicide by Rohith Vemula reflected the mindset of the BJP against dalits.

"Dalit students were protesting against an abusive posting against dalit students on social media by a ABVP activist. Even after they were found not guilty by the Enquiry Committee...Partisan attitude of VC and Minister Bandaru Dattatreya led to expulsion of Dalit Students," Singh, who is in charge of party affairs in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, said.
