Sharjeel Khan.

Recommended Posts

What is hilarious is that, after years of putting down IPL, they picked Sharjeel on the basis of 2 hack performance on UAE pitches in PSL

This is not true what you said. Sharjeel was always in contention before the PSL as well. It was in newspapers here as well as media as he had scored runs for Pakistan A as well as in Domestics.

We were expecting muchhhh better from him but totally failed... Even Nasir Jamshed wudv done much better

He's a slightly better version of Murali Vijay in T20s. Both will struggle at intl level as their go to shots are on the leg side, and no intl bowling attack will allow them to do so. They may get away with a few across the line slogs but more often than not they will fail.

It's all subjective TBH and that's where selection panels earn their salaries. Sometimes even 10 games may be too many for some while in some cases even 25-30 games may be too few for some. It all depends on how comfortable the player looks in the middle and whether he shows potential to succeed at intl level. Tom me Haris Sohail looked like one even though i only saw him bat in one innings, whereas Shehzad hasn't looked the part even though he's been around for long.

To be fair, Ahmed Shehzad, from an Indian perspective, looked pretty impressive to me. What about young talents in Pakistan? What about the U19 players? Do you guys think the Pak mgt will give them a chance soon? I thought their batting was better than the senior team!

The issue with Shehzad I see is that he has a tendency to get stuck and plays dots after dots. He doesn't rotate the strike and take singles to keep the scoreboard moving. In Tests this approach doesn't matter as you can wait for loose deliveries but in shorter formats the onus is on batsman to somehow score off the good deliveries too.

If you have other match winners in the team like Kohli, Rohit then you can carry the would be/could be guys longer. If not,it becomes difficult to carry them for long.

Good Point. You can persist on various surplus combo if your main players are solid and consistent. But in Pakistan's case team desperately needs batting performance to give bowlers a decent chance in particular Amir. However since Sharjeel is a T20/LOI Specialist, Wont be bad to persist with him considering he has pretty decent performances to back in domestic.

Yes exactly this. He can play some shots even though limited on one side but has immaculate timing and power as if he knows what he is doing through that side of wicket.

That can only happen if there are other batsmen who can take the responsibility, and Pakistanis hardly have one. Under these circumstances, I would rate Shehzad's technique as fairly good.

You guys dont have the luxury of Dhawans, Dhonis and the likes. How can you blame Shehzad for playing slow?

Literally feel sorry for him. Had brought RRR down to 7RPO, Not many batsman can provide you such a good platform chasing 181. But only for Akmal and Selfie to ruin his efforts, Have believed in his ability though needs to reduce his belly but ensure he is in same body frame since it helps him generate power. This guy has lovely wrist work in batting.
