I honestly feel that if he feels that he can play longer without the burden of captaincy, he should quit captaincy.

Again, its a call the selectors and Dhoni will have to take.

Overall, his captaincy in the tournament was good. His icy calm demeanor was essential to our wins against BD and Aus. So, I don't see why he should go.

You got the answer..

The way Dhoni is doing all this drama every time he is asked about retirement, he is going to get asked this question again and again even more now. Even if he is frustrated at answering it, as a captain he should expect such line of questioning and keep on saying no. Somebody needs to seriously teach him how to handle the press.

It appears as if people who support Dhoni's captaincy probably prefer all or some of the following:

  • Dhoniconda tactics - think that having the other team 40/0 in 6 overs > having the opponent 55/2 in 6 overs (probably get nervous when a bowler is hit for a four or six)
  • Like to extend the batting line up at the expense of 5th bowler (Yuvi, Raina, etc. bowling the 5th bowler is considered as good)
  • Look at fast bowlers as spray guns vs. wkt taking options. If a fast bowler goes for 10 runs and picks up a key wkts, it is bad than a trundler going for 6 runs without picking up a wkt
  • Believe in law of averages so a donkey on his day could win against a horse on his day too
  • Appreciate unchanged 11  vs horses for courses

To be fair, retirement is a prerogative of an individual .... Right question to ask would be would he step down from the captaincy

And these type of questions should be addressed to BCCI (and selectors) as well including what is their plan moving forward, what was the theory being a particular selection, etc.

If retirement is his prerogative, so also is stepping down from captaincy. Obviously he is frustrated at answering the same question after every press conference. But he should expect it now. All he has to say is: "No. Next question please". Thats it. No need for this kind of nautanki. And why is he asking journalists whether they have a better player lined up or not or whether they think he should retire.

Sure look forward for it.. We don't have much schedule for ODIS this year..

Better luck next year

Removing him as Captain is not the solution for all the passengers BCCI are defo smart than IND fans..

Remove hacks like Rahane and Dhawanfrom T20.. Get new players in T20 like 2007

enough of that IPL bully raina as well

He plays a big part in choosing these players too and his captaincy has gone stale too. Street smartness can help you pull off some heists like the Bangla match but it can never help improve the team in the long run. You need a young captain with a vision, not a jugadu guy who is street smart

Many people who? You mean the anonymous cricket watchers on an online forum? I am not saying that he handles defeats poorly. He is a good sport. However, doing all this nautanki when asked about retirement is uncalled for. You can see he had prepared in advance for this nautanki and was hoping an Indian journalist asks him this question.

Retiring is saying good bye to cricket forever while captaincy is a job. So a question on captaincy is a job related question .... It is like a head of a company/department not doing his job well and people asking him if he will vacant the position (or he could be removed) vs not work at all (retire) .... Dhoni probably still has a couple of years left (and may be longer if domestic cricket is considered) so there is no point in asking those type of questions

Note that Nehra is older than Dhoni and no one is even asking Nehra that question so there is no need to bombard Dhoni with such questions. Zak is still playing in IPL

Is Dhoni the first ever cricketer to be asked about retirement? It is part of his job. Responding to press conferences. Even if the questions are repititive.

Questions should be well thought out. Standard of journalism is not always high and some of them just troll

Tomorrow, they could ask Kohli the same. Why should cricketers be asked such non-job related questions?

He will still play Dhoni if he bats at #11 and doesn't keep..just for captaincy lolll.....you will have to be blind or dumb to say anything like this..

Who took Sachin's call ? BCCI ? selectors ?

A guy that won every single cup and a captain for 10 years defo will go on his terms

Harsh truth some fans can't digest

are you a fan of the game or the captain Dhoni? you can think objectively if you know what I mean

Dhoni cool mask has come off for few years now.I mean he made such a fool of himself asking Australian journo those questions. Idiot has the audacity to say did u look at my running first score at a better strike rate that's your job   .

He was anticipating this question from an Indian journo and was prepared to give an aggressive reply like he did after the BD match. Because it came from an Australian he had to be passive aggressive instead. Dhoni has a huge ego. He hid it under his cool demeanor for years but in the last couple of years it has started to come out in the open.

I commend Dhoni for working on his fitness. He used to look old and tired a couple of years ago. Now he is actually looking fitter and younger and it has also helped his game. He is never going to be the power hitter he once was but he can still be a valuable asset in limited overs. But it's time he handed over the captaincy to a fresh guy with a lot of passion. We are doing alright in test cricket after him, we will be alright in LOIs too.
