rkt.india
Quote On the Sabrimala temple issue, the Supreme Court of India observed on April 13, 2016: "In Hindu dharma there is no denomination of a male or female. A Hindu is a Hindu." And just like that a constitutional body has, probably for the first time anywhere in the world, become the interpreter of religious texts. In this it is protected by Article 25 (2) that deals with the right to religious freedom but allows the courts to intervene on social welfare and reform, but only on Hinduism. This inability to separate faith and state is now the definition of Indian secularism. What this becomes is not just a ruling on access to a temple, but a reorder of the entire Hindu faith itself. The source of Hinduism is its Vedas. The Vedas contain entire texts devoted to women. While much is made of that favourite of the book-burners - the Manusmriti, which is not even a Vedic text but a second century code now overwritten by 18 centuries of lawmaking that left much of it behind, much like amendments to the current Constitution leave regressive laws behind - this ruling impacts the core texts of Hinduism, the ones that its philosophies are actually composed of. To say Hindus have no gender and are but Hindus, makes a mockery of much great philosophy. http://www.dailyo.in/politics/hinduism-sabarimala-shani-shingnapur-right-to-pray-supreme-court-monotheism-ramayana-mahabharata-vedas-shakti-gender/story/1/10069.html Cricket_Hacker and tweaker
Malcolm Merlyn
TBH the Supreme Court also decided to make Ahmedis Muslims, when Muslim countries dont consider them as Muslims.Ideally the courts should not be interfering in religious matters as long as its not againist the law. beetle
Yeah...because the whole of hinduism is based on keeping women out of temples. Now that they are allowed to enter all temples....Hinduism is dead.

Except that, it is not the case at all. I hope somebody has actually studied the rationale behind this practice. It has nothing to do against gender otherwise even women past their menstruation cycle would not have been allowed. Now, one can argue with the rationale but not anti women for sure. Feminazis creating yet another bipolar discourse out of this matter.
beetle
Yes...the great rationale that women have a reproductive system is good enough reason to keep them out like dogs . The ability that makes them 'not good enough for temple' is what produces all humans. Women in the reproductive age should be revered for having the ability and the willingness to put their bodies through the rigors of pregnancy and childbirth instead of being treated like dirty animals. If menstruating women are dirty then men should be considered dirty 365 days of the year. gattaca
Stupid to keep women out of temples. We worship goddess but have this rule to exclude them from places of worship. Hinduism has so many rules that actually forces people out of it. We have castes and segregate woman. The people who make these rule need to have forward thinking. Look at Christianity how they have progressed they changed. Edited April 16, 2016 by gattaca beetle

asterix
Good time for Hindu temples to be more progressive and do away with many wrong practices... In many was the Abrahamic Religions have progressed and spread because of their ability to embrace anybody without any discrimination... Hinduism needs to get rid of anymore discrimination in order to expand... adi B and beetle

They either hate this decision by the court or they feel they lost control. They got kick in the back after allowing Dalits in to the temple during ambedkar. It has to be law for them to accept it.They never learn. asterix
moniker
I thought India was a secular nation, so now Supreme Court is business of giving religious sermons? People have the fundamental right to freely practise religion in India. If temples infringe on those rights the judiciary can step in to ensure people's rights are not violated. India is secular because it doesn't have a state religion. That doesn't mean it should turn a blind eye when someone's rights are violated. beetle

surajmal
If Sanatan Dharma is so patriarchal, why dont these women just emancipate themselves. Be free. In words of the famous poet, Belly, "...She told me no religion was the new religion She said she don't believe in God but her shoes Christian...". Materialism is the new god, Why do these women want the old god? Less said about this Supreme Court the better... It has an expiry date. surajmal
Regarding every cheerleader from the sidelines for constant pontifications and needling by SC in Hindu matters, Just shows why secularism is called sickularism in India. In the age of google, chewtiya brigade is so ignorant of such a fundamental idea.

I would like to hear your opinion why women shouldn't allowed to certain but other temples. Doesn't the Hindu religion state Adhi shakthi is the ultimate power in the universe who happens to be a woman even Brahma, Vishnu and shiva are step down from her ? rkt.india
If people believe in illogical gods and go to temples then they will have to believe in these illogical legends too. Shani worship isnt considered good for women. Shani is a god of sins and evils and represents chhaya. It can reverse the good effects of sun on women and brings ill effects. This episode comes out as a hypocrisy to me. Contradicting behavior. Edited April 18, 2016 by rkt.india Singh bling
