gattaca
Quote The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association received Rs 33.24 Crore through the bidding process of the eight teams that will feature in the inaugural Tamil Nadu Premier League. Among the 22 prospective bidders for the eight franchises, 17 took part in the bidding process with Thoothukudi Sports and Entertainment Private Ltd bidding the highest price - Rs 5.21 Crore - more than four times the base price of Rs 1.25 Crore, for the Thoothukudi-based team. The second-highest bid came from Metronation Chennai Television, which bagged the South Chennai team for Rs 5.13 Crore while Lyca Productions secured the Coimbatore team for Rs 5.01 Crore. Kothari Madras International Limited got hold of the Madurai team for Rs 4.001 Crore, Ruby Builders and Promoters bought the Kancheepuram team for Rs 3.69 Crore while VB Cricket Academy, established by former Indian cricketer V.B.Chandrasekhar in 1997, bought the Thiruvallur team for Rs 3.48 Crore. Take Solutions Limited and Chettinad Apparels Pvt Ltd became the owners of the Dindugal (Rs 3.42 Crore) and Karaikudi (Rs 3.3 Crore) respectively. "This is important for Tamil Nadu, this is important for domestic Tamil Nadu. There are two aspects to it. One is Tamil Nadu players can showcase their talent so that the IPL teams or any other team can look at them and take interest and give them a future. The other (aspect) is this will help develop cricket in the districts of Tamil Nadu," said N Srinivasan, the president of TNCA, when asked about the importance of the league. "Instead of cricket being urban and confined to Chennai, this will take cricket to the nook and corner of Tamil Nadu, which is very good. There is so much of enthusiasm which has reflected in the bidding and it's very interesting to see the successful bidders of the franchises, which cities they have chosen, which towns they have chosen," Srinivasan added. It was also officially announced that STAR India, which was the lone bidder for the media rights, will be the official broadcaster for the event and the telecast will be vernacular. The TNPL will feature players from the state of Tamil Nadu along with outstation players who have registered with TNCA. "This is a domestic tournament for players registered in Tamil Nadu. We will have dialogues with BCCI to allow players from other states to participate," Srinivasan said when asked about the chances of players from other states being allowed to participate. The players will be picked by a draft process. The highest bidder will get first choice to pick a player from the draft and will continue to do so over the course of various rounds. "The total salary cap will be around 60 Lakh," said Srinivasan. The inaugural edition of TNPL will kick off during the fourth week of August with eight teams, in two groups of four each, competing against each other. A total of 27 matches will be played during the first edition of the TNPL and the games will be held in Chennai, the India Cements Ground in Tirunelveli and Natham (Dindugal). http://www.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/80480/tamil-nadu-cricket-association-unveils-owners-of-eight-teams-in-tamil-nadu-premier-league tweaker 1 Link to comment

MechEng
This is too much cricket yaar, fans will get bored. Playing too much cricket in a year for profits will drain enthusiasm of both players and fans. Edited June 15, 2016 by MechEng tweaker 1 Link to comment
