So what happens in 2 days? India will have to complete their series v WI and Aus and SL series will be finished.

 

Do india become temp number 1 before they complete the WI series?

To be fair, neither team is really #1 material; but Pak would deserve it more than India.  I mean, beating up on windies is not the same as playing well in England.  Simple as that.  

 

India Pakistan test series would be so interesting right now.

If there was any other captain other than Dhoni , India at least might had a chance to atleast draw the series against England which they led 1-0. 

Misbah is the best test captain Pakistan ever had, after those two losses the way they bounced back to win last test is a testament to his leadership skills.

Um.  Let's be honest - apart from Bhuvi our bowling couldn't get it done. And our old batsmen couldn't deliver.  Can't blame it all on one guy.  Not saying he's blameless, but winning and losing are both team efforts.

Pak did well in Eng, Ind beating WI. So it would be clear that Pak should be the temp No 1. But its difficult , even if it happens Pak wont retain it.

2015 there were no old batsmen, he ran Bhuvi into ground by  his excessive use in first two tests. Kohli did the same with Bhuvi  last test and it immediately reflected in second innings, Bhuvi was bowling 135 plus in first innings but in the second innings his speeds were under 130s.Hope that spell does not ruin Bhuvi. 

 

Dhoni lets be honest never had skill to manage test away from sub continent. where he could not exert control using his spinners. He looked lost when playing away from sub continent.

Very true. As good as a Captain he was in ODIs and his instinctive grasp of momentum and turning points in limited overs, he was too much of a attritional captain in Tests.   Too much wait-and-see etc.

Simple equation - Win the 4th test against WI.

 

 

For Pakistan to become number one

 

SL win or draw the final test against Australia.

WI manage to draw/beat India in the 4th test.

 

 

For Australia to retain number one

 

To beat SL in 3rd test.

WI manage to draw/beat India in the 4th test.

 

 

 

The problem for India is not the opposition but the weather. With rain predicted for most of the last test, I do not think we will get enough play to enforce a result.  Australia has no chance in beating SL in the final test.

 

Seems like Pak will become ranked no.1 test team....SIGH. They already calling their team as no.1

 

C'mmon Virat...do something. Countries pride in your hand.

Case 1 is optimistic . As indian fan, Fingers crossed. but Case 2 most likely, what happens to case 2 if Pakistan looses final test?

This is unfair criticism of Dhoni, Bhuvi bowled the 2nd least amount of overs/match among the 5 pacers we played in England.

Shami : 19.2 overs/innings

Bhuvi : 24.6 overs/innings

Pankaj : 25.0 overs/innings

Aaron : 27.5 overs/innings

Ishant : 28.75 overs/innings

 

Even in the first two tests, Ishant bowled significantly more overs than him. Dhoni always emphasized fitness, so if he couldn't handle a large bowling load, that is his problem. We aren't going to play the West Indies every away series, and he's not necessarily going to get a moist pitch and humid atmosphere like he did in the 2nd innings at St. Lucia where he could run through their lineup in a single spell. He is going to have to be able to bowl long spells and lots of overs overseas.
