Regarding batting of Kuldeep, I am not sure if it is as good as Jayant's until I see him nor his bowling is that great as he averages 32 in FC cricket and has a very high economy too. He is just a tailender who can bat a bit like BK while Jayant is a proper bowling alrounder for Haryana. We do not want another Jadeja-type batsman in Kuldeep as a 5th bowler. A 5th bowler should be an alrounder as even our Wk/bat is not reliable. We will need all the batting form Ashwin and Jayant. Saha will contribute here and there and Jadeja is pretty much a tailender with the bat in tests. Yes...it is important that the 5th bowler is more a batting all-rounder than a bowling one. Otherwise the batting looks weak. Jayant fits the role ideally while playing in India. Pandya would be my choice outside Asia. Edited November 21, 2016 by express bowling Mosher 1 Link to comment
philcric
It'd have been perfect if he was a leg spinner (even if not a finished article but at least with potential). Being an off spinner (with Ash already being there), don't think the team would invest in him a lot nor does he provide something unique in bowling to the team. Impressed with his attitude and compact batting. Calm head, good energy on the field. Bowling was decent but then India was far ahead in the game whenever he was bowling. Batting on the other hand, he made good contributions in somewhat tricky situations in the game. Mosher and tweaker 2 Link to comment
WeStMiDz
Pleasantly surprised with his bowling. Good accuracy and not lobbing up lollipops which is what I feared after watching him in his ODI debut. Temperament seems excellent too. CoverDrive
still unsure of Jayant Yadav. you feel with his action and the way he bowls that he is a very conventional bowler. He seems to be bowling little slower in the air and is not very big turner. seems to be accurate. Key questions is does he have a good stock ball that turns big and can he work the batsman out through minor variations. Stokes wicket was a very good example. tweaker 1 Link to comment

True his only criteria is can he take 1-2 wickets when needed to support others and hold an end tight. So he did that well Link to comment
tweaker
Yadav, on his debut, displayed immense maturity when he came out to bat. He also bowled tight line and lengths and took three wickets in the match. If that wasn't enough, Yadav was also instrumental in the run-out of Haseeb Hameed at a crucial juncture in the first innings express bowling 1 Link to comment

tweaker
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who was known for his eye to spot young talent, was impressed by Yadav’s debut, and felt that the off-spinner looks like someone who belongs to the big stage. Ganguly said,"Yadav looks like he belongs at the highest level - he looked solid when he came out to bat, and bowled good lines too. If he keeps performing with the ball, that will allow India the luxury to play with five bowlers in future.” Ganguly felt that Yadav might find it difficult to get in the playing eleven when India travels abroad. “The problem Yadav might have to face is when India travel abroad. Yadav may not always get a game as India would prefer to go with only one frontline off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin. But having said that, with Jayant Yadav at nine, it provides India depth in batting and will be a good for India’s team combination in future,” Ganguly said. Ganguly also felt that given Yadav might not get to play regularly with Ashwin’s presence, it will be all the more important for the captain and coaching staff to monitor Yadav’s progress. Ganguly said,”Jayant is a good kid, and it’s important for Virat Kohli, Anil Kumble and the selectors to keep him interested, and make sure that he keeps improving. It will help the team in the long run as whenever Ashwin is finished with his career or even injured, you know you have a Test-ready off-spinner to fall upon to.” Talking about Yadav’s temperament, Ganguly said,” Jayant has a great temperament, and he will only get better with time.” express bowling and Mosher 2 Link to comment
fineleg
Interesting selection though. If you look through this - on what basis was he selected in ODI and Test squad? Was it based on India-A and Rahul Dravid. He is 26 so not like he was setting the domestic scene on fire between 21-24 so who spotted him? India-A and Rahul Dravid is it? http://www.espncricinfo.com/india/content/player/447587.html Edited November 21, 2016 by fineleg Link to comment

express bowling
Jayant reminds me of Ravi Shastri to an extent. He too started off as a spinner batting very low....but soon became a top order batsman who opened even...due to his gritty batting and ability to go to the line of the ball and play with a straight bat.
