mishra
In globalized environment one president that matters most is president of America. This thread is not for Trump bashing on grounds of bashing. This is appreciation on grounds of his deeds or bashing on based of our national interest. His poll promise was to make America great again. Did it meant a America with a arrow for Iran, Stick and carrot for Muslim nations but generally stick. Continue the era of cold war i.e economic war again, but this time avoid Russia, go more aggressive on China. Weaken EU if cant just dont let it get stronger. He is still looking for next secretary of States. This choice will dictate the future. BTW, China has allready started the media war. Yesterday saw a documentary on ITV, which mentioned how racist American have been historically towards Chinese and Asians as a whole at the same time exonerating Chinese on freedom of expression since Tienanmen square massacre. Offcourse no mention of how China is threatening all its neighbours G_B_
mishra
Among the new names being discussed: Retired Adm. James Stavridis: A four-star who spent more than 30 years in the Navy, the current dean of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts and a onetime possible VP candidate for Hillary Clinton. A senior Trump transition official told ABC News that the team is considering him for secretary of state. Stavridis' office told ABC News, "At the request of the Trump transition team, Adm. Stavridis will meet with President-elect Trump on Thursday of this week in New York. There has been no discussion of a position in the Trump administration." Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman: A former governor of Utah and a onetime GOP presidential candidate, he served as the ambassador to Singapore under President Bill Clinton and ambassador to China under President Barack Obama. A senior Trump transition official told ABC News that Huntsman has come up as a possibility for secretary of state; former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski told the "ABC Powerhouse Politics" podcast last week that Huntsman was in the mix. ExxonMobile CEO Rex Tillerson: The Texas oil executive is scheduled to visit Trump Tower in New York for a meeting with the president-elect on Tuesday. A senior transition official told ABC News he is under consideration for secretary of state. Tillerson, who has worked at Exxon for more than 40 years, has been the CEO since 2006. He has no formal diplomatic experience. According to various news reports, Tillerson supports the Paris climate agreement. Former Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton: Senior Trump transition officials say the former U.N. ambassador and former undersecretary of state for arms control during the George W. Bush administration has been under consideration. His name was dropped by Vice President-elect Mike Pence on "This Week" and was raised privately by transition sources in conversations with ABC News. He is a prominent neocon known for support of the 2003 Iraq War, for which he has said he has no regrets. Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia: One of the most conservative Democrats in the Senate, Manchin has been mentioned by Trump as worth a look for secretary of state, a senior Trump transition source told ABC News. But it's not clear whether he is a serious contender for that position. ABC News previously reported Manchin as more likely under consideration for energy secretary. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee — all of whom have met with Trump about the job in recent weeks and emerged as finalists — remain possible picks for secretary of state, transition sources say

Tibarn
The biggest thing will be who he selects as Secretary of State. If he picks a standard Republican there likely won't be many game changing moves in his presidency.

I think, Its Russia which has been headache. They do not want Russia to have too much influence in Chinese region. A result of this have been China now considers US as only competetor while Russians are happy to do business with US. If right signals are given, Russia can even go as far as joining NATO. Which means, effectively Russia is no longer a threat as big as China. China on the other hand is waging a economic battle. Problem is in reality, China have no one to fall back on. Not even Russia. So effectively, one China policy or other discounts it was getting from US is over. Infact Obama administration had allfready started this by doing a naval blockade war game in South China sea. Tibarn
When Romney was running for president he promised to put trade sanctions on China, on account of their currency manipulation. Trump has made similar statements this past presidential campaign. Whomever is made SoS will be in charge of handling the China policy. If Romney is made SoS, it may signal a hardening stand by the US on China. The problem is Romney is seemingly anti-Russia. Trump's stand during the campaign was more neutral.friendly toward Russia, which I think his SoS needs to maintain. Should they put sanctions or at least tariffs on China, the Chinese economy could be devastated, especially if they do it in conjunction with Japan, S Korea, SE Asia, and their European allies. However, that may be over-optimistic. However, the US alone can severely damage China's economy even without cooperation with other countries. Haarkarjeetgaye
There are two tracks, I would be looking for 1) H1B immigration policies - That can jolt an already slipping IT industry. Already job growth is lowest in India. This will worsen things for us. 2) Whether he controls the oil prices or production. Not sure if he has control, but if he does then any increase in oil barrel price, will significantly increase inflation in India, unless government has ability to subsidize oil prices to current levels. mishra
Chinese have started arm twisting Trump. I think he will soon fall in line as MSM at home and all over the world is opposed to him too. Interstingly British FM seems to have brought in Trumps idea of other memebrs owning up to their share of NATO burden which was 50% some time back, but now its just 25%. So Trump has got it right on NATO front.
mishra
For Indians, the disinterest shown by Trump in Pakistan says it all. They are not going to compete China to prop up Pakistan. So Pakistan now has only one power and on mercy of China. So in my opinion, Pakistan has no choice but to listen to China. I wont be surprised it may turn into a North Korea and branding nuclear weapons at us.

Today, Chinese captured a unclassified US Unmanned Under Water Vehicle. Republican Mcain said to "punish" China. Obama Administration has put official request to release it. On economic war front, Japan has regained their position as biggest creditor to US from China. Also Chinese foreign reserve down to 3 trillion i.e lowest since 2011 and on freefall( just a year nack it was 4 trillion). However what I see more significan is position of UK changing from pro China to neutral Edited December 17, 2016 by mishra
Tibarn
At the tail end of the Obama presidency, the US is fast loosing influence in Philippines, one of their most important partnerships in the region IMO. This Duterte fellow is essentially giving the middle finger to President Obama. In the meantime Obama is antagonizing Russia: It will be interesting to see what Trump does regarding the Philippines. mishra
A weelk back Russia rejected dog diplomacy of Japan. It is not down to Trump though, More down to China that for past couple of years Japan has gone back to production of weapon. By 2018, It is estimated that defense budget of US will be around 600billion, second place China will be comfortably around 200 billion but it will be India with about 60 billion spending budget. Russia, GB, France, Saudis and all will all be well below these three nations. With limited resources, what I see is major tech transfer, boost to Joint ventures in defense sectors between Japan,India and US. Unless some western power pitches in too.
