Cricketics
We are on day 2, with no hurry and Rahul plays this shot in over confidence. He was looking pretty good up till then and then he got out on this delivery, trying to hit a boundary. Check this shot out now in slow mo. The ball is not FULL by any means. It is pitched up and it is pretty risky to drive on bowler like Moeen Ali, who turns a fair bit. How would you play that ball? Defend it on back foot? Defend it on Front foot? Play sweep? Play a cross shot for a dot or a single. This has a risk of getting leg before too? Come down the track and hit it at long OFF/LONG ON region? Come down the track and defend? I personally feel he should have defended it on backfoot. He fell for the plan. Moeen Ali wanted him to drive and he did that and fell. If the ball was a bit more fuller length, Rahul would have succeeded in getting a boundary, but not here where the ball is far from an over pitched, full delivery. Brainfade 1 Link to comment
express bowling
Defend it on the front foot and play it towards mid-off. Don't play with a gap between bat and pad. Link to comment
putrevus
You go on to backfoot and turn it to onside to midon , if it was a taller batsman he could reach to the pitch of the ball and defend it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk Link to comment
kubrickian
Take a couple of steps down, take it as a half volley and smash it back over the bowler's head for a six. velu, SecondSlip, MechEng and 1 other 4 Link to comment

Don't play with a gap between bat and pad. Normally, front foot is fine. Only thing is that, you have "Bat/Pad caught at forward shot leg" dismissal coming into play a lot since one brings in the bat to defend the ball and ends up edging it, often when the ball is not turning much, or turns too much at times. With back foot, even though it might sound dangerous, the batsman will have his own sweet time to play with a straight bat and defend it, hence eradicating the Bat/Pad caught dismissal. In ODI'S, but on day 2 of a test match? Well, ya still not a bad option than playing a drive or trying to play it on off side. Link to comment
Lannister
Playing it on back-foot towards mid-wicket. Kohli does it perfectly. putrevus and Mosher 2 Link to comment
WC2011INDIA
Rahane has gotten out to that type of delivery many times. Virat should hold a coaching session for these guys. Link to comment

True, Kohli is one of those who times it to perfection. But the way he plays that, he does it differently than other players. He bends down a lot and then kind of flicks it towards mid wicket. Still a risky shot, but he has practiced it so much that he pulls it off every time. I don't think it can work with someone like Pujara or Rahul on the first go. They really need to practice that shot a lot in the nets, or else you are looking at LBW 5/10 times. Link to comment

If you go on backfoot and the ball keeps low and you miss it, you will be caught dead lbw. But it also largely depends on the nature of pitch. On this pitch where there is not much variable bounce and bounce is also pretty good, I would rather go on the back foot rather than go on front foot and defend it because as you said, there is a chance of getting an edge to the close in fielders. But if the turn is fairly consistent and you are confident about judging the amount of turn, you can look to defend on front foot. Also if you move your leg outside off and the ball beats bat and strikes your leg, you still effectively rule out lbw. Edited December 9, 2016 by kubrickian Link to comment
fineleg
Ticz as usual cannot abuse our players shot, so all this nonsense. Yes, he should have defended off back foot. But it was a SH.IT shot to play and this is absolute nonsense shot by KL Rahul. If he continues in this brain fart manner, he deserves to be dropped - these are not wickets to good balls, just poor shot selection and arrogance. Link to comment

Lol, I created this thread and put this into .GIF for a reason to blame him for his dismissal and about his complacency and to share how badly he got it wrong and what he could have done differently on that ball. What are you on about? Link to comment
fineleg
Yea I just want you to say he played a shit shot and with arrogance. The prick deserves to be dropped if he continues this fashion. Yes he is talented player but this is NOT done. Crucial role as opener and he throws it away. He is NOT sehwag and has not earned the right to fritter it away like this. WC2011INDIA 1 Link to comment
