MCcricket
http://m.rediff.com/cricket/report/why-dhoni-is-not-playingtm Why Dhoni is not playing Ranji Trophy... December 04, 2016 19:28 IST The Jharkhand team has qualified for the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy but till date the India ODI captain has not given any indication that he would like to play. Having decided not to play in Ranji Trophy, India's limited overs captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will go into next month's ODI series against England with no official game time. India's first ODI of the three-match series against England is scheduled on January 15 in Pune. It is expected to be Dhoni's first international match in two and half months after having last played against New Zealand at Visakhapatnam on October 29. The ODI series will be followed by a three-match T20I series. Dhoni prepared for the limited overs tour of Australia in 2015 by playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Jharkhand. However, the forthcoming edition of the Hazare Trophy will only commence from February 25 -- nearly four weeks after the England ODI series ends. While some of the other ODI specialists are playing Ranji Trophy for their states, Dhoni is yet to avail that option. With the Board of Control for Cricket in India having barred Indian players from competing in the other private leagues, it was not possible for the Indian ODI and T20 captain to play in the Bangladesh Premier League. The Jharkhand team has qualified for the knockout stages of the Ranji Trophy but till date Dhoni has not given any indication that he would like to play as a pure batsman with Ishan Kishan keeping wickets. "We have no information as to whether Dhoni will be playing any Ranji Trophy game or not. In any case he has already retired from the longer format. The information we have is that he is doing his regular training with the Jharkhand team," chairman of senior selection committee MSK Prasad said on Sunday. Even Jharkhand State Cricket Association secretary Rajesh Verma made it clear that as far as Ranji Trophy is concerned, Dhoni is a 'mentor' of the senior state team. "Dhoni does not play Test cricket anymore so the question of playing first-class cricket does not arise at all. He is a mentor of the Jharkhand team. He will play for Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy," Verma said. Dhoni was with the Jharkhand team in Delhi when they played against Maharashtra at the Karnail Singh Stadium in New Delhi. Dhoni, who has a house in South Delhi, visited the team on all four days and sat in the dressing room to cheer the Varun Aaron-led team. He then took part in football sessions with the bo Edited December 12, 2016 by laaloo Rasgulla 1 Link to comment
MCcricket
In an interview to mid-day.com, Vengsarkar, who's known for his straight-talks, wondered, "Dhoni has retired from Test cricket. He also doesn't play Ranji games. So how does he keep himself match-fit." "One needs to play regularly to stay match-fit. It's ironical that Dhoni isn't doing this," he said. The Colonel, he's fondly known, also slammed fellow Mumbaikar Sachin Tendulkar's theory for introduction of two pitches in Ranji Trophy games and termed the suggestion as 'impractical'. Terming the idea impractical, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) director was quoted as saying, "How will this happen? If you play the first innings for two-three days on a green top and then shift, how can you predict if the ball will turn on the other pitch? And how will this help the bowlers? No, it's not practical." Sachin Tendulkar bats for two pitches in single Ranji Trophy game Tendulkar has suggested innovations of two different pitches for a single Ranji match to help players get used to playing conditions in West Indies, New Zealand and Australia. "I have thought a lot about neutral venues in Ranji Trophy (which is being experimented this season). I have a suggestion which can be radical. Let us have the first innings on a green top with kookaburra balls which would give openers a challenge. Even bowlers will have something. Our spinners will also learn how to bowl with kookaburra on Green tops," Tendulkar told at Hindustan Times Leadership Summit. "Now let there be a pitch adjacent to the green top which would be a rank Turner. Now the second innings will be played on that track with the SG Test ball which would also help our batsmen play against quality spin bowling http://www.oneindia.com/sports/cricket/dilip-vengsarkar-finds-ms-dhoni-fitness-strange-ironical-slams-sachin-tendulkar-2283909.html Edited December 12, 2016 by MCcricket Link to comment
maniac
If he retired from tests fair enough, he can skip the 4-5 day competitions but yes you just can't walk in and out of the side like your baap ki jaagir without playing any domestic LOI games or proving any match fitness. Such coming back straight into the team should only happen in case of short term injuries which is acceptable but this is BS. velu, MCcricket, mancalledsting and 4 others 6 1 Link to comment
MCcricket
How can Dhoni get away with this being not fully committed, being fit n being match fit are two different things, with no domestic cricket under his belt n him being in poor form n loosing his game in last 4 years, how can he do this n is allowed to do this? Cricketics
I am fine if he is playing some LIST A games. Since it is Ranji going, I am fine to see him sitting out. It's not that he has been away from the game for 4-5 months. He just played an ODI series few weeks back. What actually I do not want to see or like to see a top Indian Cricketer, who missed all season due to national duty goes on to play a "play off" game for his state. I am fine if they play a regular season game, but if they have not played a single Ranji game in the year, they should not be allowed to play for their state in quarter finals, semis or finals. As in the case with Parthiv, he played for India, but he played for Gujarat too, so he can surely go back(We actually want to see him go back), but honestly Dhoni shouldn't be actually allowed to play in playoffs, as he missed the whole season. sandeep 1 Link to comment
BeautifulGame
This argument is only valid if his odi form is poor . He was still our second best bat behind Virat in Nzl Odis . I do agree he should play limited overs domestic cricket though sscomp32, Vilander and Sidhoni 3 Link to comment
