India's ODI vs Test sides

The Indian Test team has come a long way under the leadership of Kohli... 18 undefeated tests on the trot with ~60% wins is phenomenal.

The playing XI always has something exciting to look forward to and the bench strength is strong. True they haven't been tested in tough conditions yet (SA, Eng, NZ) , but great positive signs for a young team with a bunch of new talent.

On the other side, the ODI team feels jaded, unexciting far from stable. We're still nowhere close to even having a stable playing XI let alone a squad and backup. What would be required to make this team Champions trophy ready? Discuss!

-- New-age  lower-middle order big hitters who can play at a high SR....like Pant, Hooda, Krunal etc.

-- A new opener, like maybe Rahul, who can start scoring quickly from the beginning ( unlike Rohit and Dhawan who are both slowish starters and then play well when set )

-- Allowing Axar and Hardik to play at No. 7 and No.8 instead of  experimenting with these positions.

I'm still fine with the top order - Rohit, Dhawan, Kohli, Pandey sounds a good top 4...

Middle order and lower middle order batting is really concerning..

Dhoni is not the finisher he used to be and does not fit at 6 or 7. IMO, he is too slow when he plays the accumulator, so No.4 doesn't suit him either.. That should go to Pandey... That leaves No.5 for Dhoni

No 6. - Kedar Jadhav / Pandya possible options so far. Karun might be tried here as well.. Still unexplored territory

Assuming two of Jaddu, Ash, Mishra take No 7 and 8,

fast bowling is another area that is very unstable in the ODI XI. Unlike a reliable pair like Umesh and Shami in Tests, ODIs have seen way too many changes. Hard to say who the top 3 will be..

Will the pecking order be - Bumrah,  Shami, Umesh, Bhuvi, Sran. Is there anybody else in the mix for ODI? Dhawal?

No our ODI bowling is quite settled. Pecking order is Bumrah, Shami and Bhuvi as the frontline pacers. Umesh, Sran and Dhawal in the mix as reserves.

Rohit, Rahul, Kohli, Dhoni(can easily a play a role at number 4), Pandey, Jadhav(preferably someone better/young), Pandya, Ashwin, Jadeja, Shami and Bumrah should be our side.

Looks pretty well covered.

This lineup is otherwise decent but does not address our biggest concern of lower-middle order big hitters.

Ashwin is a good test batsman but quite poor as a lower-middle order hitter. Even Pandey comes across as someone who is a good top 4 batter rather than a No.5. Can't really slog with regularity but plays quickly when he comes in early.

Don't you rate Aniket and especially Sangwan as he has the tools , can bowl good yorkers, swing at pace n is a decent bat as well, so a good package being a left armers, and good fitness as well as fielding
