MCcricket
India home to IPL , world's best T20 league, biggest pool of players best setup, coaches, money, best international players, but why aren't we the best T20 team and intact are poor and play the T20 game like a old ODI way, wait watch, instead of focussing on S/R, clinical bowling, why aren't the best young p!Ayers not in India team but poor, out of touch players playing. BeautifulGame
Poor squad and team selection. Every other team using this format to usher in youngsters. We are using this like testimonials. MCcricket, msplash9 and New guy 3 Link to comment
sourab10forever
T20 is a always a 50-50 type of format. India has done well. This same team was totally dominant for the whole of 2016's T20 season. We have to accept that India's approach to cricket from the last 50 years or isn't inline with the current T20 needs. Copybook cricket is of upmost importance in order to make it into the first class structure. IPL comes later. Most naturally aggressive batsmen get filtered out early. Only few like Dhoni make the cut. The natural game of a few countries like WI is in line with it. We have failed to produce T20 specialists. The domestic structure is such. Some other factors include : Limited international T20 games. Most teams play 10-12 matches more than us every year. Young T20 players not fast-tracked. IPL being the only factor for selection into the International T20 side. We have shown that we can play copybook cricket and still win (T20 WC, 3-0 W-wash in Australia etc...) rkt.india
The only reason for dominance was Kohli and he was never going to sustain that kind of form. New guy, SecondSlip and MCcricket 3 Link to comment
beetle
We play very few international 20-20. We don't treat it as different form of cricket...but either as a stepping stone for longer forms or as a place to accommodate the ones who got left out from other forms. Isko isme daal do...usko usme daal do.Yeh reh gaya....chalo isko teesri mein daal do. Edited January 30, 2017 by beetle SecondSlip, MCcricket and kruiser 3 Link to comment
Tibarn
Pick players that do well in the IPL and they will perform. Recycle players like Yuvraj, and continue to fail. express bowling, SecondSlip, MCcricket and 1 other 4 Link to comment
Cricketics
We are ranked number two right now. So hardly any decline but why we are ranked 2? All because of Kohli However, we could decline if we continue to not promote young players. Why? Because every once in a while we need young players to step up in big matches like playing against pakistan in world cup t20 game. We are developing KL Rahul well by playing him and he could one day hold his own and play an imporant knock under pressure against teams like Pakistan in an important world t20 tie, but we need to have more such players who can rise to the occasion. It will not happen after one game. They have to play a series of games to have confidence to shine against top teams in a crucial world cup tie. Only Rahul has played enough games to have such impact as a youngster. It is now high time we play some more players like Pant, Hooda, or anyone. . Gambhir did it in 2007 twenty20 wc when selectors showed faith in him and he took that confidence into the the tri series in Australia later that year and won India that tri series, our first big ODi schievement in Australia in a long time. It is about giving confidence. It is common sense. You give confidence to a player by giving him more games. Be it any sport. You play few youngsters and let them score runs and let them also fail and they will gain confidence from both the scenarios. There is a very important word in tennis. It is called "wildcard". During every grandslams, every host weather US Open or Australian open or Wimbledon, they hand over local "wildcards" to top local college player or upcoming talent from their. These are for players who have never won any major tournament at times but just impressed at college or school level as they are young upcoming talent. They are given an opportunity to share the locker room with the greats like Federer and Nadal and even play against other top players in a grandslam even after being ranked 998th in the world. And the moment they end that tournament, we hear that they have won few rounds already in the main draw, something which our Indians are trying to do since ages but fail. This is what our cricket team and selectors need to do. Stop thinking so much. Hand few "wildcards" to the top young performers. We will benefit. IPL is not limited to Indian players. And the teams will not prioritize long-term talent development. It will be a meritocracy trying to hire the best players for the job - so fast bowling and lower order big hitting are categories dominated by outsiders. Its not a surprise that lack of depth in these categories is costing the national team. History shows that the most $$ is made in India by batsmen who are quality players, not hitters. A Gavaskar was always a bigger star than a Sandeep Patil. No surprise then, that we have a massive pipeline of test ready batsmen, one that ALL other countries envy. But not necessarily the case for other categories. BUT, give it time, the IPL has re-oriented incentives. We are going to see a ton of wannabe Shakib Hassan types coming through in the short term. Good-ish spinners who can bat a bit or tonk the ball. And hopefully Hardik Pandya is just a first among many more to come later. That's the type of player that I'm more interested in seeing coming through in this year's IPL. MCcricket 1 Link to comment
express bowling
We should start picking the best T20 players who are in form....instead of big names and big stars Things will improve dramatically, but I don't see this happening. IPL brings forth much more talent but also creates big stars of goodish players who start wielding a lot of clout, especially regarding selection in the shorter formats IPL has become our biggest strength as well as biggest weakness regarding T20Is. MCcricket
I think outside few core players in our ODI side the T20 side should be picked up on basis of S Mushtaq trophy and IPL alone as there is a huge opportunity which is wasted due to large number of games and high standard of competition, also by doing this we will see more talent coming thru, better bench strength in ODI n maybe test as well. Players like Thampi, Sarfaraz, K Khan should be identified and used for T20 and not using recycled ODI players or unsuccessful players or older players for this format. A T20 side should be young, energetic, vibrant and has to play like every ball matters and S/R is most important, ability to minimize dot balls and score fast, among bowlers ability to contain thru clever bowling, subtle changes and even odd actions or novelty can be a plus ala Bumrah. Our T20 side should look like Pant/ M Agarwal Rahul/ Rohit Kohli Jadhav Sarfaraz Hooda/ K Pandya Pandya Jadeja K Yadav Bumrah Thampi/ Sangwan/ Sran/Natrajan Edited January 30, 2017 by MCcricket Link to comment

Kamraan Khan played IPL few years back and Warne had chosen him to play , he did not get chance to play Ranji, was called for chucking although it was a hyper extension. A bowler who could have done well for T20 especially, had pace, was slingy and could bowl devastating Yorkers. He played domestics in SL coz he could not get a chance here, SL would have identified and made him like a Malinga and we all know how well Malinga served Lanka in shorter formats. express bowling and Bleed-Blue 2 Link to comment

Unleashed
Number two in the world and the highest win ratio of all the non associate teams playing right now. OP makes it sound as if we're rubbish in this format. Just because your favorite youngster isn't in the team, doesn't mean our team sucks. People need to get their head out of their asses and actually look at the results rather than posting nonsense. raki05 and LordPrabhzy 2 Link to comment
Silva
India team isnt that bad. The bowling attack is actually very good. They are just missing a couple of batsman. I think if yuvi, raina and pandey are replaced with pant jahdav and rohit they can become dominant even. Link to comment

T20 is still a lotrery at times but india has been winning a lot more than most which shouldnt be over looked. Link to comment
Texan
#1 blame must go to the selectors. No matter what T20 talent we produce or witness in the IPL, these guys are hell bent on picking the same old same old. So, what use is having a premier T20 tournament like the IPL if we are not going to give any rising stars from there any chance? MCcricket 1 Link to comment
