OK did he increased his pace?? Can he bowl yorkers?? Can he outswing to lefthander?? I have seen him bowl in that pink ball test match didn't looked as impressive as you're suggesting he was a 130k trundler when he debuted he might have improved to be 135k trundler yes he might be bowling in good channels but he's never international material its not 90s we are now blessed with far many batter bowlers then sangwan

Shami Ishant Bhuvi Yadav Bumrah Kulkarni Nehra Sran

Those our 8 fast bowlers which our selectors believe are the best we have. In subcontinent where we play 2 pacers in the 11 especially now with Pandya as third seamer, how will these new bowlers mentioned here get chances?

Pacers have to be considered format wise

Tests --

Already there --  Shami, Umesh, Ishant, Bhuvi, Shardul .

Have potential -- Aaron ( bowled well on last A tour ),   Aniket

ODIs --

Already there -- Bumrah, Shami, Bhuvi, Umesh

Have potential --  Basil Thampi, Nathu Singh  ( Shami is rested and these 2 can easily replace Umesh ) , Sran

T20Is --

Already there -- Bumrah,  Bhuvi, Nehra

Have potential --  Basil Thampi, Nathu Singh  ( these 2 can easily play in place of the aged Nehra ) ,

Places open up when we play more pacers outside Asia and also because of resting pacers and injuries to pacers.

The new bowlers will help us in creating a pool and we can manage workload of our frontline pacers in a better way.

But will they get in the first 11 on a regular basis in meaningful matches? Outside Asia in T20 as Nehra is on his last leg 2 slots might open up one of which will go to Bhuvi. So that is one slot. But then how many T20s do we play outside SC anyway?

In LOIs, the emergence of Pandya means we may go in with only 2 specialist pacers and two from Ashwin/Jadeja/Mishra. If Pandya happens to play and do well in tests as well, the chances of these guys getting a look in are slim.

Anyone new getting in test matches maybe difficult for the time being

With 5 front-line pacers already chosen, even with 2 injuries, we still have 3 to play outside Asia.  One thing might happen though.....in case both Shami and Umesh are injured, the team management might bring in Aaron to introduce some genuine pace  ( Both Ganguly and Laxman were discussing this aspect ).

The best area to introduce new seamers will be ODIs. We play quite a few....Shami is mostly rested.   While playing outside Asia, we may choose 4 pacers and  Bumrah, Bhuvi, Thampi and Pandya may end up playing on certain pitches.

Also, we have seen both Umesh and Nehra being preferred over Bhuvi in many LOI matches....and if Thampi captures the imagination of the captain and coach then we might see Bumrah, Thampi and Pandya playing as the 3 seamers.

Agreed with all that you said. That means basically only one slot is open across formats which according to you Thampi should seal. Rest will have to keep playing A tours/Ranji/IPL etc etc. As unfortunate as it may sound, most of these names may not ever play for India. Especially with selectors picking Dinda in A team.

Somehow my gut feel says that Shami will not last long enough . Injury prone and also heard is a very lazy fellow.

So better to use him test and sparingly in 50 overs only . No T20 for him.

When fit too valuable in tests.

That should open up few chances for new guys in 50 overs & T20

likes of Nathu, Ankit, Warrier have time on their side and can certainly play for India in future. Warrier has been really impressiv. Needs to get him in A tours and then overseas tours of India, ASAP.
