When You Are Arrogant, You Pay The Price

I agree. My personal take on the 5 bowler strategy is that we need to be flexible about it.

Play 5  bowlers on flat pitches and 6 batsmen on difficult pitches.

That being said, Jayant Yadav has been really good with the bat and as good as a proper 6th batsman in the few chances he has got.

Jayant Yadav is a bits and pieces cricketer.

You only play 5 bowlers if the pitch is really flat,to rest your bowlers.Else if Jadeja and Ashwin dont take wickets Yadav surely wont.6 batsman is the normal.

Even if you are arrogant, you dont get bowled out for less than 220 in both innings combined. There is much more to this abject surrender than just overconfidence.

If one the 6th batsman wold have scored 50 or 60 and manged a 100run partnership with the lower order the pressure on the team would have been lot less.

Jayant is a very average bowler but has the game to be a top order batter.

I too am in favour of playing 5 bowlers on flat pitches and 4 bowlers on helpful tracks. Need flexibility on this issue.

That being said, this loss is not due to team composition...... we were out-bowled , out-batted and out-fielded.

The reason for this loss is something different.

We lost a series in 2005 then one in 2012.7 years, else we kept wining for 7 years.not 7 tests or 7 months,7 years we were winning.

we would have drawn the 2005 series if not for Rain.

We did not win much we drew test series.Even Zim drew a series here along with eng.I would take win over drawn series anyday.

The point is we are not playing with only 5 batsmen. Jayant's average in tests before this match is 55 and he was as good as a batsman in the England series. So your point about us playing only 5 batsmen is false to being with. Hell, even Ashwin and Jaddu were doing well with the bat. So its not as if the onus was only on the batsmen, we had other run scoring options so we had the luxury of playing 5 bowlers. Where's the question of arrogance in it ? Obviously, now that it has not worked we may see some changes.

Jayant Yadav has FC batting avg of 30.He is a bits and pieces spinner. His 55avg was propped up by his one innings.
