flat_wicket_bully
https://www.icc-cricket.com/media-releases/345504 Quote Jadeja catches up with Ashwin at the top of the rankings India’s win in the second Test assures it the No.1 spot in the ICC Test Team Rankings · Smith overtakes Ponting in reign at the top of batsmen’s rankings · Shakib overtakes Ashwin to No. 1 spot among all-rounders · India’s Test win assures it top-ranking on April 1 and $1 million cash prize India’s Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have become the first pair of spinners to be jointly top-ranked in the MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings for Test Bowlers as Jadeja has caught up with his spin-partner in the rankings released today after the second Test against Australia in Bengaluru. Jadeja’s seven wickets in the match, which included a crucial six for 63 in the first innings, have helped him move up one rank to reach the top position for the first time in his career. The last time two bowlers shared the top spot was in April 2008 when Dale Steyn and Muttiah Muralidaran were at the top. Ravichandran Ashwin finished with figures of 6 for 41 Ashwin too played an important role in the match, which India won by 75 runs to level the four-match series 1-1, so as not to concede the top ranking. His eight wickets took him past spin legend Bishan Bedi’s tally of 266 wickets and made him the fifth-highest wicket-taker for India in Tests with 269 wickets. Australia spinner Nathan Lyon’s eight wickets in the match have lifted him two places to 16th rank while his team’s left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe and India pace bowler Umesh Yadav have gained one place each to reach career-best 28th and 29th places, respectively. In the MRF Tyres ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen Australia captain Steve Smith has maintained his reign at the top for 77 Tests, going past Ricky Ponting’s 76 matches and now has the third longest stint at the top among Australians after Steve Waugh (94) and Don Bradman (93). Steve Smith has maintained his reign at the top of the ICC Test rankings for Test batsmen for 77 Tests. His team-mates Matt Renshaw has gained six places to reach a career-best 28th rank with knocks of 60 and five while left-hander Shaun Marsh has moved up five places to 37th position with scores of 66 and nine. India captain Virat Kohli has conceded the second rank to England’s Joe Root after managing only 27 runs in the match and 40 in the series so far. Root is now one point ahead of Kohli at 848 points. Cheteshwar Pujara’s innings of 17 and 92 have lifted him up five places to sixth rank while Ajinkya Rahane has moved up two places to 15th rank after scoring 17 and 52 in Bangalore. Player of the match Lokesh Rahul has gained 23 places to reach 23rd spot after scores of 90 and 51. The list of all-rounders saw a change at the top as Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan moved ahead of Ashwin, who has scored only 20 runs in four innings against Australia so far. Ashwin had overtaken Shakib in December 2015. India’s win in the second Test assures it the No.1 spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Test Team Rankings on the April 1 cut-off date and a cash prize of $1 million. The fight is now for the second, third and fourth places. Zero_Unit
This kid has come a long way. Remember the times when he could barely hold the bat and ball? was only good for fielding? Finally blossoming like a flower. Link to comment
speedheat
Why can't this points system varies I mean more weightage should be given for picking up wicket of batsman with high caliber like kohli, smith etc JaFanatic 1 Link to comment
Gollum
This is great. Richly deserved, both of them. Most lethal bowling duo in at least half the cricket playing world(Asia + WI). Link to comment

CG
MAR 8, 2017 I told Matt Renshaw when he was batting in the first innings that if they didn't score big, I'll have them for soup and dessert. Offspinner R Ashwin on the on-field interactions between India and Australia Gollum 1 Link to comment

kira
Well deserved, jadeja is so underrated, he's the best spinner in the world for me, despite what the stats say Link to comment
Ultimate_Game
I wish Jadeja improves his batting. At the moment he bats like a no. 10. Link to comment

Cricketics
Better bowler than Ashwin for test in South Africa and places like that. Ashwin only gets the nod ahead of him because he bats better than Jadeja. Hopefully our batting is solid so we can play Jadeja ahead o; Ashwin overseas. Also Jadeja is improving as bat, like he showed against England recently. Just needs to be consistent. Hopefully he can learn that from Ashwin. Link to comment
Adi_91
What is interesting is that padosi's legendary phaastt bowlers are not in the Top 10. Link to comment

How can you say that when Ashwin hasn't even been given a proper run overseas and used as a defensive resource by the great Captain Cool? Ash hasn't played a single test in NZ and only 1 in RSA where he messed up and was criticized, rightly so. But Jaddu got a turning track in Durban, we don't know how he would have performed in the 1st test which tbh was a patta where RSA almost chased down 450 in the 4th innings. Ash averages better than Yasir Shah in England in the 2 tests he has played there. In Australia which is a graveyard for offies Ashwin bowled very well in 2014-15 and averaged better than Lyon in the 3 tests they played together. Ashwin's bowling was especially brilliant in Sydney where he went at 2 RPO whilst other end was leaking at 6 RPO, also picking up decent number of wickets. Karn Sharma was picked ahead of him in Adelaide, a huuuge blunder. On that turner against Ash, his favourite bunny Warner wouldn't have made 2 100s. Edited March 9, 2017 by Gollum Link to comment

That is all true, but whoever is bowling better then should get nod. Ashwin is clearly better when wicket is spinning right now but Jadeja isn't far. Also, if Jadeja is bowling better when South African series comes around, there is no harm in trying him again considering he has done well in Durban and can be backed. How the players are bowling that time and in te warm up games leading to the test makes lot of importance. So we have to keep those things in mind. If Ashwin is bowling better, then he should play. But we should be open to change. Regarding picking Karn Sharma, I won't call it blunder because he was part of the squad and we had to try something different and they wanted to give a new player a chance. Yes, he sucked but no harm in giving someone a chance when Ashwin had failed to impress in the warmups leading to it. I agree Ashwin could habe been better on that track than Sharma otherwise.
