The Fascism Thread

The Outsider

Recommended Posts

I probably won't be able to contribute much given time constraints and commitments, but this is a thread to chronicle our descent into ultimate fascism. Here is an example from today:

A professor thrown into jail for highlighting the ambiguity in some Maratha ruler's date of birth.

Appears as if the professor's comments hurt the sentiments of students who in turn attacked him resulting in police coming in to action and keeping the professor in jail for his own safety

Though not as bad as the Md cartoon controversies which started in Denmark

Tamil Nadu man hacked to death over atheistic FB posts

This happened a couple of days ago in Coimbatore. Hope justice is served along with  Dabholkar, Pansare, Kalburgi murders. Surprised to see this news not get enough traction in the media. Wonder why? Looks like the disease(hacking atheists, rationalist bloggers to deaths) has spread from Bangladesh to India.

Fundamentalists are nuisance value for democracy. We have to be beware of fundamentalists on all sides. There is certainly a danger of fascism under the garb of nationalism in today's India. Of course, objectively speaking, this reaction to the sectarian and divisive secularism which has been adopted by the parties in the past to win elections. Fascist elements on the right have to kept in check. AAP victory in Punjab would have made some difference. A strong credible opposition has to emerge in next 5 years at least.

Dadri redux in Jaipur today. Use beef and the state as a tool to subjugate minorities. Don't like someone - gang up Gaurakshaks, allege beef beef, either lynch him or send him to jail. In either case the guy is gone for good.

And when one of these foot soldiers dies a natural death, drape him in the tricolor and send ministers at his funeral.

Fascism lesson for today.
