you cant compare the 2 and 3 runs in cricket to a 40 or 60 meter dash  as you have to stop and turn killing the momentum completely

1 )   I have not found any article / information which suggests that radar-gun readings are integrated in the hawk-eye technology in cricket. Some articles actually suggest otherwise like this one

" To pick the speed of a ball requires calibration. Hawk-Eye uses six cameras that track the ball out of the bowler’s hand until it is no longer in play. The position of the ball is recorded numerous times each second. Any errors are tended to immediately. But it hasn’t stopped participants from pointing out the technology’s flaws.
So is there anything better? Not really. The alternative, the speed gun, throws up varied readings. "

If you find any article which states that only radar guns are used to measure speeds in hawk-eye then please provide a link. It will be an interesting read.

2 )   Radars are still used separately by telecasters because it gets the speed immediately ..... while the speed calculation results from high speed cameras take a bit more time to come.... it comes after a couple of balls are bowled because data from 6 cameras are analyzed.  Just think of the ball tracking in DRS and it takes some time to come.

" There are few advantages of this technology: ( radar  gun )
It is instantaneous and records the speed immediately as the ball passes the gun. This is why the speed is shown on the screen immediately after the ball is delivered. The gun works efficiently and helps getting the exact possible speed of the bowl.  "

p.s -  The article which you initially quoted was written in May 2002.  Hawk-eye technology was introduced to cricket in 2001 and became regular from 2011. Hence, there is reference of radar guns for measuring speeds in that article .

" Hawk eye is referred to as a technology that is used to measure the speed of ball as the way it is bowled.  "  ( speed along the trajectory of the ball  )

And this is not possible with radar guns. which basically depend on the displacement of the ball from the radar gun.

And that flight could be the first 15 cm too

i saw somewhere roberts had clocked 159k.... whatever these recorded speeds tells us there is no doubt they were quick, as quick as modern day pacers ,the debate is whether they were super human and bowled a lot quicker than anyone we have seen over the last 25 years.i can tell you one thing we wll never see a bowler who bowls over 150ks all the time as long as we live

Expert 1 -- Sourav Ganguly saying during  CT 17 that Amir is bowling high 140s.  Telecasters immediately showing fastest ball as 144 k. ..... Ganguly says again after a couple of balls .... Amir bowling high 140s.

Expert 2 -- Manjrekar asking WI bowling coach during WI 2016 tour.  Why are Holder and Brathwaite, such big and tall fellows, not bowling 90 mph but bowling 80 mph ?  Coach says that pace is not dependent on big physique .... Manjrekar continues .... but surely you would expect such big guys to bowl 90 mph !

Expert 3 -- Roberts saying to Harsha Bhogle in a TV interview that he and the other top WI quicks used to bowl 160 k +.

Many people here have seen / listened to these incidents on TV.

How dependable are the words of experts when it comes to bowling speeds  ?

so now you have discarded your garbage theory and acknowledge we can judge speed from a 2d image projection of a 3d object , now its just down to a certain range lol

You are being too theoretical as usual and arguing for the sake of it.

Have I talked about gauging delivery speeds without any batsmen or wickets for reference  ?  In telecasted content and videos, both are available for reference.

    In fact,
different reactions of batsmen to different pacers on the same pitch ..... like  whether they are getting hurried or not, especially to full deliveries. whether they are playing more on the front-foot or back foot to good length balls,  how the pitched up balls are carrying to the keeper for different bowlers on the same pitch, whether the keeper is very close to the 30-yard circle or logo on that 30-yard circle etc.  batsman standing deep in the crease vs outside the crease
.... all these factors are important pointers for ROUGHLY ESTIMATING or guessing bowlers' speeds while watching on TV.

Huh .... like not noticing a single 147 k+ ball by an Indian pacer except Aaron ..... when dozens of them have been bowled by 8 different pacers .... while saying that Holding bowled 153 k+ throughout the day
