Vijy got a reaction from Muloghonto in Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs
this has been my impression too. he has focused more on his stock ball and became more effective in tests... I believe that his low point in Tests came in SA (Jo'burg). During the earlier stages of his career, he was more of a "mystery" bowler who relied more on variations. However, in the last 2 years, he has become more orthodox. As a result, his ODI record has suffered since he has not shown the adaptability between diff. formats (same failing with Jaddu too) unlike Kuldeep.

not to forget gray (tony gray). he was rated as being better than croft by some contemporaries. ended up with a stellar record in the few tests and ODIs he played.

All I see is yet another arm chair analyst adding to us arm chair analysts in pontificating and putting forth his theory. I think it goes without saying that most of us (perhaps all) are arm chair theorists.

yes, cause and effect were mixed up. he lacked accuracy, lacked the mental stamina to bowl long, controlled spells, and lacked guile. he was just a LOI trickster at that point. look at jo'burg test 4th innings.. he didn't gave away too many runs per over, but had no idea how to pick up wkts.

obviously, as a whole, ashwin is a much better bowler than rashid. however, you're daydreaming if you think fielding restrictions alone explain everything. for example, santner, nurse and axar (all of whom are finger spinners) averaged around 30 with ERs < 5 since the beginning of 2016. in comparison, the great ash-jaddu in ODIs have averaged around 60 with ERs of 5.5 to 6.0

it could be. there has been a lot of hoo-ha on this forum about how ours is the greatest pace attack, etc, etc. but I'll be fully convinced only when the team picks up 20 wkts on aus pattas. people say that we could have won adelaide test, etc. but that was only because of the declaration, and not because the team picked up 20 wkts. In that match, both ummi and shami were there. thus, 2 out of 3 pacers are gonna be the same. hence, it remains to be seen how much our pacers have improved since then.

Although Kuldeep is a rare talent, it remains to be seen what plans batsmen come up against him and how he counters them.

He's already better than VK when both had played the same number of Tests, but in limited overs I think VK is better.

yes, we also need a fast scoring keeper-batsman. either pant or kishan I guess. it has been quite a while since sarfaraz played a T20 I think

As per Aussie hype machine, they hailed every all rounder as the next Keith Miller (their only world class all rounder in post WW-2 era). I remember reading this about Ian Harvey and Shane Lee (dunno if anyone remembers them anymore)

Vijy got a reaction from King Tendulkar in If both are in peak form - would you pick Irfan Pathan vs Hardik Pandya ?
his bowling is not decent. he is faster than ganguly and robin singh but in terms of his abilities, he's about the same. he's more of a part-timer than a batting all rounder in tests. in ODIs, if he can bat at a sufficiently high gear, he can be a batting all rounder.

seems difficult to believe that they played both at their peak; must be about 15 years separating their peaks. hence, this will mean that the batsman was: (i) either young in his career when facing holding, or (ii) aging when facing waqar. hence, I'm not disposed to play too much faith in their claims. age almost always does have a major impact on player reflexes which are v. important in handling rapid pace.

hazelwood has a good record in ODIs but he is at his best in Tests. As you said, they have a weak middle order outside Oz. The likes of Khawajas and Bradman Voges only score heavily in their home pitches.

boland was one of the worst pacers I saw from Oz in recent times. Almost as bad as Mitch Lewis
