  1. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

When he loses rhythm completely after a good/decent start, he struggles to get it back and can go haywire at times. One of my friends observed years back, if you score like 60-80 runs off him without giving him wickets, he is done for that innings.
  2. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

Less than 24 hours after our discussion, you can see what happened in the TN Ranji game against Andhra. Ashwin picked 4/71 in first innings. TN having conceded a lead, had to force a win by bowling out opposition in 1.5 sessions so set them a target of 220 odd. Ashwin started off with extremely aggressive field sets and bowled well for 2 overs creating chances. Then gave away a few runs due to over pitched balls and from there on, things took a different turn. Andhra bats started off cautiously, then started scoring runs and soon TN had to go to damage control mode to save the test. Ashwin started getting literally thrashed around like a club level bowler by no-name Andhra bats. Leave alone wickets, he couldn't control his economy below 4. And he had to do LOI style bowling. Either Ash bowled a lot of bad balls or Andra bats have gotten soooooooo better than they started smashing his perfectly good length deliveries into the stands. You can guess what really happened. Ash lengths were all over the place (overpitched, half tracker, leg side). Sure he picked up 2 wickets but it was because they had to slog. The real hero was pacer K Vignesh who picked up R Bhui who mauled Ash and bowled intelligently in the end. This is exactly the point I am trying to make. 1. Ash's control for LOI situations has gone down big time. If you bowl in the arc, even club batsmen will destroy you. If you drop it short, ditto. Imagine bowling like this to IPL monsters. No wonder you will be smashed. 2. If Ash had bowled this innings like a proper test match situation, his figures may have been very different. 3. Another factor is once Ash goes off rhythm, he really struggles to get back to rhythm unlike bowlers like Herath and Jaddu. That is why his figures in tests get affected at times. Even in county this year, he gave away too many runs so his averages took a hit. He needs to work on this. If he works on this, both his LOI and test figures will improve.
  3. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

Ashwin was a very good ipl bowler back in the day. Not the same in the last few years. What rule changed in ipl since then? Two things happened. Batsmen got more bolder and Ash in his part declined in ipl. Ashwin had an awful 2012 in odis even before the rule change i think. Not sure of the timeline.
  4. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

That's your view. Fair enough mate. I have explained my view and reasoning for it in detail in past posts. Old Ashwin was defo more accurate than this Ashwin in LOIs. The difference is staggering. But its not too late. Ashwin can go back to what worked for him and combine it with the lessons learnt from years of playing cricket and find his path. The very fact that Washington Sundar was so successful in IPL last year should give you clues. Sure he hasn't yet been worked out which he could be but accuracy STILL matters in LOI.
  5. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

Old Ashwin was accurate in tests too but he didn't have the guile to get wickets through proper flight, dip and drift. Or had lesser guile I would say. This would result in him trying a lot of things and thus losing his rhythm, line and length.
  6. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

Jaddu is accurate but was never a great T20 bowler. The logic presented applies to him. 2010 Ashwin was accurate but rarely ever got hit. Why? Cos he combined accuracy with knowing what to do when batsmen attack him. There is a difference fellas. You can't use sweeping definitions to explain away everything when there are OTHER factors in play.
  7. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

I understand your point and from where you are coming at. As I said above, Ashwin now has the requisite accuracy to succeed in tests but doesn't have the accuracy that he had once in LOI. Old Ashwin wasn't great in tests because he would get wayyyy too impatient and try many things when it wasn't going in his favour. Moreover, his 2012 fiasco was mainly because he had a technical glitch which led him to SPRAY the ball around. He didn't average 50+ against England bowling accurately. There are degrees of accuracy.
  8. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

He has the requisite accuracy to be successful in test cricket but it's nowhere close to what he had in past (for LOIs). That's my point.
  9. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

That's what didn't happen. He worked on his action (accelerated more when coming onto the crease), wrist position, body and thus got better with flight, dip and drift. The qualities needed to succeed in test cricket. His accuracy is down. Old Ashwin gave nothing away in LOI. Ashwin of today will pitch one too full or too short and get whacked.
  10. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

Mishra ji was only better on turners. Flatties and in pressure situations, he would single handedly lose you the game. Check the data. There is a reason why he never became a regular in any format even though he made his debut back in 2004.
  11. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

Ashwin bowls more annoying bad balls than in the past. When he first came on to the scene, he was simply unstoppable in both LOI formats. Picked like 2-3 wickets per game in List A games at that time (I used to wonder who is this Ashwin guy checking Hindu). Was a huge hit in IPL, Champions League. Destroyed NZ in India under Gambo's leadership. Looked amazing in WC 2011. Test is different. He wasn't a better bowler back then. After 2011, his IPL performances have been dropping badly.
  12. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

I think these are theories. Play him on the tracks Mishra ji, Chahal, Kuldeep and Axar played post 2015 and he would do well. Would he do as well as them? Dunno. But he would do well. In 2015, he bowled on turners against Sri Lanka and averaged like 4 in a series. Looked great against SA in T20s too. Same orthodox action. Issue is his accuracy isn't what it was. Even in CT 2013, he wasn't that accurate as he was in the past.
  13. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

I think you may be confusing several issues. In 2010, Ashwin was accuracy personified. Today Ashwin has more guile, flight, dip and drift but he bowls more bad balls. But then it doesn't matter as long as his good ones pick wickets in tests. Look at Washington Sundar. Last IPL, he was as accurate as Ashwin was and he did very well even though he doesn't turn it much at all. Not comparing both but just talking about accuracy.
  14. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

You may have forgotten what 2010 Ashwin did. He was relentless. Current Ashwin is more skilled in tests but he simply is unable to bowl 6 deliveries in perfect good length. He simply can't bowl that over to Dhawan that he did in IPL 2010 finals. That's what he has to practice.
  15. Kuldeep Yadav vs Ashwin Ravichandran in ODIs

2010 Ashwin was a gun LOI bowler. Would you believe he was man of the tournament (Champions League) held in SA. Was in gun form in WC 2011. And the IPL that came after it. Those were the days if you hit him for a six, he would get you out next ball. Scarcely believable now, isn't it? If Ash has to make a comeback, he has to go back to the 2010 LOI version. Bowl 6 deliveries in good length consecutively. He had been sucking in IPL for far too long and not rectifying his errors and eventually it all caught up to him. Here's what he has to say about his snub - http://www.thehindu.com/sport/cricket/i-am-not-desperate-at-all-r-ashwin/article19824294.ece Let's see what he does from here. Kuldeep is pure talent. Sky is the limit for him. Love his flight and attacking lines. Let's see how he goes from here.
  16. Keshav Maharaj

All bowling outside Asia. Biggest point. Can someone post videos of him?
  17. Washington Super Saiyan. This guy is performing like Ashwin on steroids. Haha.
  18. Cheteswar Pujara's overseas form

I honestly don't understand how Pujara averaged so low in County this time. Ashwin averaged 42 in his stint without breaking a sweat. Could have averaged 60+ (needed like some 90 runs odd) if he didn't get out to innocuous deliveries multiple times. Is it because Pujara played in different pitches to the ones Ash played (who played 3 out of 4 games in New Roads)? A guy who scored 145* knock on a green seamer, should be able to play county second division. Its not like those pitches were bouncy as hell or anything.
  19. Cheteswar Pujara's overseas form

Pujara at home/Asia has no peers among current batsmen. I have lost count of how many times he saved India at home/Asia. We would have lost the 2017 test series against Aus if not for his special in Bangalore 2nd innings. Lost the 2015 away series against SL if not for his 145* in decider. Lost the Delhi 2013 test against Aus if not for his 80 odd at 80 SR. This is just a small sample. There are a lot more games too. Outside Asia we can take a call based on his performance and drop him if he doesn't score. That's fair. But in Asia, Pujara is one of the greatest ever bats both in terms of average and in terms of impact.
  20. How Many Matches Will Rahane Cost Us, Before He is Dumped?

Congrats Rahane has scored in 2 series. Another couple of series secured. This series he has good average with SR so we are screwed. When the time comes for a clutch game, watch what happens. You can just see the upcoming train wreck with Rahane and Dhoni in the lineup.
  21. If required rate is >4 then dhoni should bat at #11

When Dhoni screws up at number 6, let's move him to number 4 cos after all...he can anchor the innings perfectly. When Dhoni screws up at number 4, let's move him to number 6 cos after all...he is a finisher and its better to have him in a "hit out or get out" position at this stage of his career. Rinse and repeat till infinity.
  22. Let's all laugh at AUS's ODI performance outside AUS

Haha.....this is what happens when people with poor comprehension skills try to act smart and get owned and then hav to change goalposts to shift to a related discussion. Happens.
  23. Let's all laugh at AUS's ODI performance outside AUS

Good point. Or they can also go for 4 pacers like I mentioned and have Maxwell/Faulkner share the rest 10 overs if Zampa doesn't keep performing.
  24. Let's all laugh at AUS's ODI performance outside AUS

Hmm..I don't know. I would define being sensible as atleast having basic comprehension skills to realize that a post can add to a point raised in the quoted post.
  25. India are now #1 in ODIs as well

We were very clutch uptil 2013. These days we aren't. World T20 2014 we simply choked. World SF 2015 its ok... World T20 2016 we entered the tournament as firm favourites, played crappily throughout (except Kohli) and got knocked out in SF. CT 2017 just awful. Like we forgot how to bat or bowl in the finals.
