Simple, technically batting deficiency to tackle swing. Even in SA, without ABDV, India would have lost where Philander was running rings around Indian batting.
The WC 2019 SF was lost to swing.

There is no talent coming through as far as coming to face swing and bounce.

I don't even know what the purpose of A tours are when guys making bucket load of runs in same conditions aren't in the first team, I.e. Gill

And of course lack of taking along a genuine swing bowler in SA, Eng and NZ is another factor but different issue.

Kohli has low IQ and not a strategic captain, but wont blame entirely for loses. He doesn't have half decent batsmen to compete overseas.

Dhoni who was a much smarter captain, inherited one of India's greatest batting lineup, but flopped so bad overseas. I mean 4-0, 4-0, and then losing 1-2 to Eng in India.

Though Kohli in ODIs needs to go.

in  this game. especially w.r.t batting, rookies build in strength from  playing along with experienced  batsmen who perform .  So Virat,Pujara & Rahane
were the experienced ones around whom the rookies needed to built in confidence & become  better players. Then , all the 3 experienced batsmen under performed so emphatically. Kohli can be excused for his extreme workload. But Pujara & Rahane, especially Pujara has no such excuses. He has been the culprit in chief for quite some time now. One down is so vital to a team's fortunes. Pujara keeps on under performing which affects the performance of all the others around him...Rahane too has under performed so badly.   So, firstly the TM need to make right selections.  Selecting incompetent players and then mourning in  defeats accounts for nothing

chewy reacted to Gollum in More often than not our overrated batsmen have been culprits in overseas tours
Been like that even in 90s. Our batting unit almost always fails to justify its (inflated) reputation. Even in WI and Zimbabwe in the past where we failed to chase modest targets in the 4th or run away with the match in 3rd courtesy big lead. Ability not a question, our pampered batsmen in general lack the grit to grind it out during tough phases outside home soil. In places like Eng/NZ even poor batting units of Pak/Lanka/BD have exhibited more spine.

    This series:
1st test no scorecard pressure for bowlers. Even though we conceded some 50 runs extra, 3rd innings capitulation on a patta showed it wouldn't have mattered in the end. Can't win a test even in Zim with 160+190.
2nd test bowlers brought us back even giving us a vital lead when none of us thought it was possible at end of day 1. Had Vihari not missed a sitter it could have been a 50 runs lead. What do maharathis do next? Get bowled out for 125 to give a paltry target.

In RSA and Eng, batsmen (both while batting and when catching) didn't support our top bowling efforts. How easily our TM applies 'horses for courses' policy when it comes to bowlers. But batsmen must play every match, everywhere in the world even if they keep on failing . Truly this 'caste system' in Indian cricket will never go away, in fact our bowlers are worse than Dalits in the absence of reservation. Watch our experts lambast bowlers while making excuses for the batters. Gavaskar did that A LOT during our 2002 tour to the same country to protect his darlings.

PS- Bowlers have *ed up in the past, but not nearly as much as batsmen. Moreover they aren't the kings in Indian cricket.

Failing on the crucial day also amounts to choking especially after stream rolling the opposition earlier. If it happens regularly it means the tendency to break up under pressure.
Why can't even one of the much celebrated top 3 conjure up an innings of substance in a big match.

thats becoz KO in world tournament have different pressure, u knw its now or never for an event that u waited for 2-4 yrs. Kohli as captain is poor under this pressure which is why he hasnt found success in Tournaments. A captain under pressure affects team same was issue with ganguly. Rohit, Dhoni, Gambhir all are better this pressure which shows in IPL

True, Rohit n kohli playing such series is a problem. They will finish most games on their own and these guys dont get any experience and once comes a high pressure game where they fail ...these youngster have no exp.

It was a gr8 innings by kohli but i wished all the time that he shudnt have been playing coz i wanted to see rahul , iyer, pant in this situation without kohli . Atleast we can do that in WI, SL series at home

Our biggest problem in LOIs is that our top 3 never let anyone else get batting practice in low importance and / or easy games.

We are not prepared if we suddenly become 20 for 3.  All our other batters from 4 onwards just do not have enough practice of innings building in LOIs.

This is basically lack of planning and propensity to pad stats by top 3 in easier games.

    https://www.innocenceproject.org/cases/darryl-hunt/

In 1984, a guy named Daryl Hunt was convicted of raping and murdering a young woman.  He was thrown in prison but not sentenced to death.  In 1994 DNA evidence revealed that the perpetrator was some one else and Hunt was innocent.  In 2004, Hunt was released from prison and did some public events.  Hearing him speak provided great perspective.  In 2016, he committed suicide.

Many many such cases.  While the emotion is understandable, putting someone to death - the absolute permanence of it - when there is even a 1% chance that they did not commit the crime is why I oppose the death penalty.

If Hunt had been swiftly put to death, an innocent man dies, the perpetrator is still roaming free, and the victim's soul has no peace.

Now, one may argue that it is okay if Hunt was put to death just to deter other rapists and murderers.  I simply cannot accept the unnecessary death of even one innocent person.

There is also the rich vs poor angle here. Those accused were poor and thus, law process was compromised and this encounter justice is celebrated.

Should be 0-14 by next match, batting and bowling looks pathetic,
Cummins and Hazelwood didn't even hit 5th gear, and Smith wont have too many failures.

Hopefully India keep it up in T20 World Cup next year, and ensure India 13-0 Pakistan.

As long as bottle caps were being used liberally, Shakoor Rana/Khizer Hayat as home umpires, chucking away happily, biting/eating ball, dancing on pitch they were bowling paaawerhouse.

Now with stricter & clear-cut rules and implementation of the same having been tightened, multiple video cameras, video analysts, neutral umpiring plus DRS, clampdown on chucking etc->bowling paaawermouse.

From Nawaz, Dim, Wasim, Waqar etc to Musa, Pusa, Chusa
From Chuckmal to someone cos of whom opponent's score moves faster than Hyderabad's auto meters

But truth be told however mediocre their current bowlers are, I will respect them more than the cheats of the bygone era. Yasir>>>>Chuckmal always. If you aren't good enough, man up and take the beatings instead of testing the limits of the system and grace/goodwill/magnanimity of others.

Not saying Dim and the Ws were inept....they were quite good actually but will always take their ATG numbers with a pinch of salt. No way was Dim an equal of Marshall, no way were Wasim and Waqar at the same level as McGrath, Ambrose, Donald, Bond etc. When opponent teams kept collapsing from 200/2 to 230 all out...not once, not twice but with alarming regularity pardon me but I refuse to believe the Pakistanis were so unplayable with 60 overs old balls and tired bowlers. We faced the brunt of tampering and home umpiring in our 1982-83 tour, where they cheated their way to a 3-0 series win. Don't tell me the ball from their chief tamperer to Vishy was normal, wonder how many bottle caps, knives, saws, lathe machines etc were used to alter the aerodynamics.

Everyone who played for them during their tampering raj benefited, even those who didn't take part in the dark art. Everyone was an accomplice to that travesty of a practice. Smith got banned for a year, Dim is PM....difference in culture I guess. Likewise in more recent times some Pak bowlers were legit, clean action, no ball tampering etc but when a guy like Chuckmal does javelin throws from the other end causing collapses and making batsmen nervous, that plays into the hands of the others. As we see quite often, when pressure is built from one end the bowler from other end benefits statistically....batsmen will take more risks against him, be more panicky, more susceptible to blunders. Larry Gomes was a pie chucker in Lloyd's team but with the ferocious quartet doing its usual thing his rubbish bowling was good enough to secure him a career ODI average comparable to Shane Warne's. Ajmal, Junaid and Hafeez are the biggest cheats of the modern era (post 2000)...Ajmal especially is nothing short of a criminal the way he made a mockery of rules and lied about it all the time.

Can only laugh when people reminisce about the old days of Pakistani phaast bawling superheroes bowling out teams for fun. Thankfully cricket is a much fairer sport now. What we have been seeing in recent times is the true aukaat of Pakistani bowling, hope their fans and admirers make peace with the fact. When everything is fair and equal they have done nothing to prove they are better than bowling units from India, NZ, Eng....WI/Aus/RSA to dur ki baat hai.

After lot of introspection I think the game was lost because of lack of thinking and top level decision making. You cannot play 3 wkt kprs in that game. If Jadhav/Raydu were playing India would have won. Not very complicated.
