  1. This is the what the bowler himself has to say "" I was not well yesterday so I was not able to bowl a lot. I was preparing overnight that I am able to bowl the first over today. I prefer the new ball but with this SG Test, the old ball swings a lot. ''''
  3. There is a place for a swing bowler both in tests as well 50 over matches . In tests - On overseas tours you need to have a back up where pitch is bowler friendly like eng/NZ. In 50 Overs - A good swing bowler has always been a success in the opening spell rather than a straight pace bowler as most the batters now at the top play shots based on line & length . A bit of deviation , they will be in trouble. Where he fits in ... Well his pace is not enough . Need to improve . Need to develop defensive bowling at the death if he aspires to have a shot at 50 overs . I think he and deepak chahar may be kept in consideration as a back up for Bhuvi.
  4. He needs to change his Approach . I was really disappointed that he still not worked on it since August. He is trying to hit balls by throwing kitchen sink at it, causing in loosing shape while excuting the shot. trick lies in playing the shots in gaps without loosing shape which will give same results without loosing control while playing. when only 4 fielders are out on deep you can plan out where you want to hit on either side based on the line of the delivery and some times even improviise by playing on onside a ball which is out side off stump- which actually he does well. He should try to get 1 and 2 also against good deliveries , can't just be all out attack all the time . When chances are given you need to show something . You can't just wate your chance . without change in approach he will end up a la Afridi category ... a few 4/6 and thats that ... Follow virat's approach atleast 50%.
  5. What nervousness . Its almost 4 months now since debut . It should have been overcome by now. I think does not have the temperament to succeed at highest level.
  6. Most of the time its the pace prospects who get hyped or to put it better way talked about excitedly. Its because the parameter which is used . If some one bowls a few deliveries above 142-144+ in a Tamasha match like IPL we go GAGA over him. I think the best way to judge such pace prospacts is to see if : 1. He takes loads of wickets in domestic circuit . 2. Also gets wickets /troubles batsmen consistetetly on list A games .
  7. Looks better than iyer .. May be he is in peak form
  8. No point in giving a list of people not currently doing commentary or those who kicked the bucket. List should be of current ones . BTW , Simon Doull has a very sharp eye and a very good tactician the way he analises. Another thing - The voice and delivery of words should be pleasing and likable even if knowledge wise a littlle below the best ones . Here my vote goes to Mark Nicholas... and Botham may be a great cricketer but so boring drab voice .. Voice should create a theatre , an expectation and some excitement - Tony Greg was good at it .. There was one hindi commentator in All india Radio in late 70s & 80s ... who by sheer speed of delivery of words while talking about runs being taken made you visualise how fast batters running & completing runs ... Those heard him would remember ... ""Batsmen ek run ke liye bhaage , Doosra run ke liye jaa rahe hai .. Ghend seema reka ki taraf doudthi huyi .. Aur ye chhar run ..... :: And he will utter them in such supersonic speed , one would visulaise actual running . Similarly there was one hindi guy who used to do for Hockey matches ... Really made you to get involved in each moment of the match with excitement. But i must admit ... it is difficult to achieve it in TV commentary but more easy in Radio .. as there they make you visulaise .
  9. Sirjee .. You are such a prolific contributor , must be looking at players with microscope looking at your passion for the game .. I am not that deeply into it.. Just wanted to know if there are any specific things which points to his possible failure ..
  10. Haan Sirjee ... Guy has numbers . Now selectors should see something that make them feel he is not worth trying.. What are those things acc to you which makes one/selector to feel he is not worth it
  11. Sirjee if domestic is not the yardstick then which one selectors should look for ? Some " somehow just feel" thing ! Go by Feelings only
  12. Sirjee Can you be more specific why he will not do well in T 20s & 50 overs match . What are the short comings ? Is it against pace ? No back foot shots , No pull shot . Not good against spin? No big shots ? Only bang bang , no strike rotation ? Poor fielder ? Please elaborate
  13. REASON I AM SAYING 20I FIRST FOR HIM IS THAT HE SEEMS TO HAVE TOOLS TO SUCCEED IN DEATH OVERS . GOOD 2-3 OVERS AT DEATH IF SUCCESSFUL WILL GIVE A BIG BOOST TO HIS CONFIDENCE. I AM NOT SURE RIGHT NOW HE CAN BOWL WELL UPFRONT . YOU CANT MAKE HIM BOWL 6-7 OVERS AT DEATH IN 50 OVERS, he should be able to bowl quite early in an innings also. His stock ball in first spell seems to be short rising ball , the moment his good length ball is attacked , he will bowl that rising short ball. it may work against domestic batters in India but in international matches he may be taken to cleaners . Whereas in death overs he bowls atleast 4 different deliveries one being a good yorker at pace and hence may succeed . Re: Siraj , i am very glad that he played those 2 games and his weakness was exposed . You can't just bowl a slower ball with no deception and hope to succeed . He now knows he needs to develop more skills esp. yorkers , and decptive change of pace to play at international . Without that experience , he would have gone on doing the same stuff thinking he is ready for international level.
  14. Saini for 50 overs match Khaleel for 20 over matches first . Need to graduate from there to 50 overs . Do not rush him to 50 overs right away. Needs some more experience & polishing
  15. He is more of a basher of slow bowling & trundlers . Really doubt his ability vs quick pacers .
  16. For all tearing of our hair , no major changes will happen till WC 19. It seems only places which may have some uncertainity are -> no.4 & No.6 assuming MSD will play at no.5 . For no.4 -> though team management seem to favour Rahane , i would like to see Rohit at 4 . looking at his issues against moving ball . Rahane or KLR( if selected) should open with Dhawan based on who is in better form at that time . For no.6 -> He has to be a batsman who can give you 4-6 overs . At the moment only Jadhav fits the bill. But his form has been very iffy. Add to it very poor fielder. I am sure team management will be closely watching Raina's form in this year's IPL . If he hits form , i think they will go for him at no.6 . An in form Raina is a much better option than Jadhav . I think this is what is going to happen whteher we like it or not .
  17. I still think Gill a better player of pace than Shaw. Shaw will be tested by shortish stuff soon. Gill terrific runner , shaw lags in this aspect.
  18. From what i see , he seems to be better player of pace .. better than shaw , Iyer , Pant . Handles short balls better. Takes minimal risk but his strike rate is always above 100%. Super fit for no.4 position where he will hold one end up with nearly 100% strike rate . Let all hitters do their hitting from other end. The current lot Jadhav , Pandey play too many risky shots .
  19. For 50 overs he the best bet at 4 . Just get him in at 4 . Period ! He should not be included in T20 looking at his present game. You do not need
  20. Some how apart from Shaw & Gill, i do not get a feeling of solid line up which can put up a god enough total if both of them fail.
  21. Do not under estimate D Chahar if fully fit
  22. Any swing bowler should bowl that full ball but landing nearer good length mark than towadrs popping crease . You will have them bowled . LBW and also caught . Whatch the length of Botham / Alderman in some of the old videos
