  2. Legendary Australia cricketer Shane Warne has backed Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant to seal his place in the team’s squad for the ICC World Cup later this year. Warne feels that Pant can play solely as a batsman considering MS Dhoni still taking up the wicket-keeping duties. Warne went a step further and stated that Pant can open the innings with Rohit Sharma despite Shikhar Dhawan being the trusted partner of the Indian vice-captain at the top of the innings. “There has been talk if Rishabh Pant can play in the side. I think Dhoni and Pant both can play. I can’t see why Rishabh Pant can’t play as a batsman, he is outstanding,” Warne was quoted as saying by India Today. “Maybe even open the batting with Rohit Sharma. I know Shikhar Dhawan does a great job but Rishabh Pant opening the batting with Rohit Sharma could be pretty cool too for India. Go with some of these X-factor type things and tactical battles, where you surprise the opposition.” Also Read: Chief selector MSK Prasad reveals India’s most important player for 2019 World Cup Warne also said that India could tinker with their top-order in the forthcoming series against Australia. Australia’s leading wicket-taker in Tests feels that Pant should be given a chance at the top against Aaron Finch’s troops. “It could be worth throwing Rishabh Pant at the top of the order for a couple of games and see how he goes. Maybe against Australia now and experiment and see how he goes for the World Cup. Dhawan may have a role to play somewhere else. But I am really looking forward to seeing what India have because they have a lot of players who can do a lot of roles,” Warne said. India are scheduled to play two T20Is followed by five ODIs against Australia between Feb 24 to March 13. The first T20I will be played at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, in Vizag. https://www.hindustantimes.com/cricket/it-would-be-pretty-cool-shane-warne-wants-rishabh-pant-to-open-innings-with-rohit-sharma/story-6ymyU3S4Ws0Ks4BuO6vjUJ.html

WC slots - DK vs Pant (2nd keeper slot)

1.Shankar - better batsman and can also bowl. 2.Dk vs Pant: Still undecided. Dk seems good as a finisher. Pant is yet to prove his talent in this format.Maybe Dhoni can be rested for the Aus series and both of them can be given chances. 3.Krunal. 4.Shaw. 5.Umesh seems the best from the worst.

  7. Hardik Pandya will join India's limited-overs squad in New Zealand and KL Rahul the India A squad that is currently playing a 50-overs series against England Lions in Thiruvananthapuram, after the BCCI lifted their suspensions on Thursday. Pandya wlll fly out to New Zealand "at the earliest", according to a BCCI release, while Rahul will join his India A team-mates for the last three matches of the series, on January 27, 29 and 31. Given that India play their second ODI against New Zealand on Saturday, the third ODI in Mount Maunganui on Monday, January 28, appears to be the earliest possible opportunity for Pandya to return to action. Rahul and Pandya had been suspended for their controversial comments on a TV show, but became available for selection as soon as the BCCI's Committee of Administrators lifted the ban on the pair, pending the appointment and adjudication of the board's ombudsman. The CoA banned Pandya and Rahul on January 11 for their controversial comments on a TV chat show. However, the fate of the two players since then had been in limbo because of the split in the two-member CoA over what the next step should be. CoA chairman Vinod Rai was in favour of placing a two-match suspension and allowing the players to return pending an inquiry by an ad-hoc ombudsman. However, former India woman's captain Diana Edulji, the other half of the CoA, disagreed, saying either the office bearers and the COA carry out the inquiry or it be done by an ombudsman. Two of the three BCCI office bearers had then pointed out that the ombudsman could only be appointed by the BCCI. It was then decided that the CoA would wait for the Supreme Court to take call on the appointment of the ombudsman, considering the BCCI had failed to fill the position lying vacant since late 2016. At a hearing last week, the court deferred its decision saying it would have a say only after amicus curiae PS Narasimha took charge. It is understood that Edulji was not keen to change her stance, but Narasimha is learned to have intervened and said the interim suspensions over the players be lifted subject to the ombudsman's adjudication, once appointed. Accordingly, the BCCI issued a statement, stating the CoA had lifted the "interim suspension" on both Pandya and Rahul with immediate effect. "The above matter and decision has been taken with the concurrence of the amicus curiae, Mr PS Narasimha. In view of the above, the suspension orders dated 11.01.2019 is immediately lifted pending appointment and adjudication of the allegations by the BCCI ombudsman," the board said. http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/25840027/hardik-pandya-join-india-squad-new-zealand-kl-rahul-play-india-a

  13. The 27-year-old pacer said the national selectors have not communicated with him since he returned from injury © Getty Shardul Thakur, who played a Test match for India not too long ago, has made an impressive return from a groin injury that kept him out for almost two months. On Tuesday at the Wankhede Stadium, the seamer moved the ball around at decent pace to take four for 47 to help Mumbai bowl out Chhattisgarh for just 149 in the second innings of their Ranji Trophy match. Thakur's impressive match haul of eight for 79 has taken his team to the cusp of a win with a bonus point. However, the 27-year-old pacer became the latest player to reveal that the national selectors have not communicated with him since he returned from injury. "No one has spoken to me yet," Thakur said. There was no national selector present at the venue to see how the fast bowler, whose Test debut against West Indies in October in Hyderabad lasted a mere 10 balls before he limped off the ground, is shaping up now either. A source in the BCCI, however, contradicted Thakur's statement. "The selectors have been speaking to him from the time he was set to return to action, in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy game against Vidarbha at Nagpur on New Year's Eve. He's been told that he should keep himself ready to play for India A for the limited over and 'Test' series against the England Lions at home," he told TOI. Speaking about hit fitness levels and how his bowling is shaping up, Thakur said: "I'm getting better every game, every day. The way I bowled against Vidarbha (his first game since coming back from injury), on Days One and Two was different. I improved on Day Two. Here at Wankhede, I improved from the last game," Thakur said. For now, Thakur is focused on gaining match practice. "At the moment, I'm not worried about speed. I need to bowl as many overs as I can in a match, and take that experience with me, so that when I play at a higher level, I can take that workload. Talking about my speed, it will come. I've been training, doing my fitness sessions," he said. His bowling, the speedster, admitted, isn't 100 per cent there as of now. "I'm at the 90 per cent mark. I'm coming out of a major injury. If I say I'm bowling at 100 per cent, or if I try to bowl 100 per cent, it will be silly of me to do that immediately. As I said earlier, I'm progressing slowly, so hopefully, I'll get there in a few weeks," he said. Meanwhile, the pacer was obviously hurt by Mumbai's poor show this season. "It's painful. All these years we've made the knockouts. we've made the semis, played in two finals. since I started playing for Mumbai, this is the first time that we've not qualified for the knockouts. It was painful sitting at home and watching your team not do well. A lot of times I felt that I should be playing out there helping the team, but I couldn't do much since I was injured," he lamented. Thakur, who has played five ODIs and seven T20Is for India, seems to have taken his nightmare of a Test debut in his stride. "Injuries are a part and parcel of the game. I was unlucky that it happened on my Test debut. Maybe if I was playing some club game, it would have happened there, and you would still call me unlucky," he said. For plate group players to be even considered, their team has to qualify for knockouts and they have to show their true worth against stronger teams. They can also be selected for the Duleep or Deodhar trophy where teams are picked based on Ranji perfomance.

  18. New Delhi: India's Test specialists are likely to be a part of the India A team that will take on England Lions in late January as BCCI prepares a road map for India's red-ball specialists for the coming year. The fourth Test against Australia at Sydney which starts on January 3 will be the team's last red-ball assignment for six-months as the focus will turn to white-ball cricket in run up to the 2019 World Cup. "The fast bowlers workload management is a different issue but in case of some of the Test specialists, we might play them against England Lions. England Lions are coming for a full series where they will play four day Tests as well as List A and T20 matches," a BCCI source was quoted as saying. It is learnt that the selectors might look at Pujara, Rahane and Prithvi Shaw (expected to be fully fit by then) to play the longer format matches. As of now, Pujara is expected to feature in the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals, starting January 15 with Saurashtra currently on topping their group with 25 points. In case of Mumbai, the chances of qualification are bleak as they have only eight points from five games. Rahane, who is not a part of India's limited overs scheme of things will next play the Mushtaq Ali Trophy followed by IPL for Rajasthan Royals. Pujara has not been picked by any IPL franchise. India will next play the five-day format in July 2019 against the West Indies in a two-Test series as part of the World Test Championship. https://www.news18.com/cricketnext/news/pujara-rahane-among-test-specialists-likely-to-play-for-india-a-against-england-lions-1981019.html I think this is unnecessary. They will be taking a slot away from a deserving candidate who can be selected for India A .
