What shud be our opening Combination for next test ??

We need a bizarre opening partnership to shake things up a bit.

    1) One specialist and new opener ... Mayank 2) And another who is anyway in the team either as an all-rounder or keeper-batsman Ashwin or Parthiv Logic for point 2 ... batsmen have much better chance with the Kookabura 10 overs or more old. Keep the best batsmen for later. So keep ... 3. Pujara 4. Kohli 5. Rahane 6. Vihari .... ... unchanged 7. Pandya 8. Pant / Jadeja 9. Ishant 10. Shami 11. Bumrah Either of Ashwin or Parthiv won't do any worse than Vijay or Rahul as openers.

Official now : Hardik Pandya added to Indian Squad for 3rd n 4th test

Only the 1st and 4th test aided spinners during parts of the matches. Moreover, things are more complex than that. Perth test is aiding pacers but our quicks have conceded more runs here than on the flat Adelaide pitch. Same thing can happen on pitches with moderate help for spinners during parts of matches. It does not always work according to expectations. And ... with the ball swinging and seaming so much in England ... captains rarely feel comfortable playing an extra spinner at the cost of a seamer.

Many captains want 4 pacers in Australia. Especially Kohli. That is just a guess. We will never know. Jadeja, the bowler, did not look better than Pandya, the bowler, in England.

This is a stop-gap measure for 2 tests for team balancing ... as a chance to win a test series in Australia is very rare. I want Pant to be the long term and medium term keeping option. Pant has dropped 5 catches in 2 tests already. So, his glovework needs some work too. Why would I change a middle-order batting order which has given us strength in this test series ? First choice is Pant keeping and Ashwin opening. Or Pant can open for 2 tests as a stop-gap measure too. The openers are walking wickets anyway these days in tough conditions.

2 frontline spinners not needed in Australia.

    Shami fires

Umesh Yadav has looked very disinterested in international cricket for the last 18 months. Only exception was the WI test 2nd innings. He runs in without enthusiasism these days and just places the ball. Time to say bye to him from international cricket.

Pant has dropped quite a few catches too. The core 3 to 5 of Pujara, Kohli, Rahane has given our batting some strength in this series. I would not tinker with it at all. And Vihari has looked good at 6.

Yes, if Ashwin is not ready to open or is unfit. As of today, their keeping are at the same level. ( although Pant will improve and has a good future ahead of him ). Strong steps need to be taken for balancing the team, without weakening the core bowling and batting. My first choice would be Ashwin opening and Pant keeping though.

    1. Shaw 2. Ashwin / Parthiv 3. Pujara 4. Kohli 5. Rahane 6. Vihari 7. Pant / Jadeja 8. Pandya 9. Ishant 10. Shami 11. Bumrah -- Ashwin can bat with a straight bat and won't be any worse than Rahul or Vijay. -- This team has batting till 8 -- 4 pace bowling options and 2 spinners. This line-up can really deepen both our bowling and batting while maintaining the strength of our core bowling and batting.

Speed and performance of pacers and spinners in important matches

I have always felt this and written about it too. That Shami's success as a test match bowler depends a lot on him trying to get bounce with a certain consistency ( unless the ball is reversing ). This is because he is such a short pacer that his fuller side of good length and shorter side of full length balls or 5m to 7m balls, hit the batters' sweet spot of the bat. And he is unable to counter it with astronomical accuracy or big swing, as he is not a line and length swing bowler. Unless the ball is reversing, Shami should use the 7m to 10m bouncing deliveries liberally in every innings ( and also use some yorkers if tailenders are batting ).

Is that the Aussie channel ( or gets the same telecast ) which keeps showing higher speeds by taking the highest speed gun reading ? You said Bumrah bowled 150 k on day one. In India they showed his quickest as 147 k in the first innings. ( And he bowled 148 k today ) You said Hazlewood bowled 149 k in the first innings. In India they showed his quickest as 145 k ( And Hazlewood does not bowl near 150 k either ) Maybe it is the case of highest speed gun readings for Australian broadcasts.

    1. Umesh's most accurate phase in his life ... 5 tests in early 2017 ... was when he was regularly bowling 140 kph to 150 kph. 2. In this match, he did not try to bowl fast and has always trundled . And has been inaccurate too.

Bumrah bowls Starc and gets the last wicket. 3 wickets for him.

Shami hits Lyon on the grill with a vicious bouncer. Very next ball ... another short ball ... Lyon moves away in fear and caught. 6 wickets for Shami.
